What is the correct term for the sequence of letter and numbers printed on every engine that describes impulse, thrust and delay? I have always called this the “engine code” but it occurred to me recently that this may not be the correc term.

What is the official name of the “engine code?” and what do you call it?

The NAR calls it a "rocket motor code" https://www.nar.org/standards-and-testing-committee/

In the current Estes catalog it's referred to as an "engine code." In the 1963 Estes catalog (posted on their web site) it's referred to as "engine classification." In the first Centuri catalog I could grab (I have the 1980 one on my computer here) in the engine section it has a heading for "engine classifications" but then goes on to explain how to read the "engine code."

Those are three sort of "official" sources.
