Hey all

I have been thinking about cutting a hole in my AV bay bulkhead and running the antenna of the eggtimer telemetry module up into the payload bay. The thought is that moving into the payload would be a better place for transmission than the AV bay due to the all-thread in there. I have designed and test fit a cover fir the antenna that will protect it and keep the the AV bay sealed.
Has anyone done this? Should I do it? Will there be any benefit?
I have not drilled the hole in the bulkhead yet and before I do I want some feedback. Thanks for any advice or help you may have. Pics attached show the test fit and what it will look like poking up into the payload bay.

I've used the external antenna and had it stick out the bulkplate, but I like your mount/antenna guard. I assume there's a couple of screws to hold it onto the bulkplate...?

Yea there are a couple of holes for M2.5 shoulder bolts to hold it on the bulk plate

I like the idea. Hopefully the the deployment harness quick links attaching onto your eye bolt will not interfere with the antenna’s physical or RF integrity. I have posted elsewhere on the Forum test results of the effects of adjacent all-thread to antenna performance. The cover is a great idea.

I don't use quick links to attach the shock cord on the antenna side, and I've tried to keep anything metal away from the antenna connector. The lid also slides down into the AV bay coupler several inches to try to protect the antenna from be jerked sideways.
