egg timer mini transmitter gps wont connect over serial with putty or visual gps

Ok, we finished soldering up our eggtimer trasmitier mini, have installed the prolific usb drivers from prolific website, switched the port to COM2 in device manager.
We then open putty, switch to parallel, then set to 9600 and hit open. putty crashes with an error. Then we try visual gps and same issue, it crashes with the same error.

we have zero experience with this device.
Device manager does indeed show that it is working properly and has the current driver installed.

any help and recommendations would be great. thanks

DISREGAURD THIS POST. I found the problem... bad solder joint on a pin. found it by accident haha. sorry for taking up space

We had been testing that unit for about 6 hours. I usually blame it on windows haha, but this time it was us hahaha
