I want to drill a 38mm hole in a fiberglass bulk plate. Should I use tape to keep from tearing? Should I use a forstner bit to do this? Any other recommendations? I'm going to put an Eggtimer Apogee into a 76mm in my nose cone bulk plate for deployment.

I think I would use a hole saw. If you can't get a hole saw of the correct diameter then use the next smallest one then sand or grind the inner surfaces to the desired diameter.

Having drilled m any circuit boards over the years, the big problem to avoid is cracking it along the planes/layers of fiberglass . Starting small and working your way up works well, but is time consuming. but a hole saw and a sharp reamer does best.
