Dr Freeman Dyson has died at 96. A contributor to science on many fronts technically did not have a PhD. Nevertheless, he was invited to be a researcher at the Institute of Advanced Studies at Princeton. Dr Dyson was able to show that Dr Feynman's version of QED was actually equivalent to the different mathematical formulation of two other scientists. He was a contributor to Project Orion, which proposed using atomic bombs for interplanetary and interstellar propulsion.
