My wife brought me home some defective mylar ballons from her job (grocery store) the other day. I thought I could use them for some chutes, streamers... If I can use them for chutes or streamers, will I need any wadding?

TIA

You sure do!

Mylar is not as suseptable to melting as the regular plastic chute...but it will still melt!

Is there any type of reusable wadding that can be tied on to the shockcord?

Yes, as a matter of fact you can use nomex heat shields. If used correctly, they can last a long time. Here is a photo of some 4X4 inch shields.

This is how they get attached...

If you need them...you can find them here (Another shameless plug!)
Thrustline's Heat shields! :D
