Stumbled upon some info about how many NASA engineers are wavering re. support of the Ares launchers (and being pressured not to go public with their criticisms).

Not only that, but a group has actually "gone rogue" and developed an alternative proposal that relies more on proven systems. The article is great...it details the very real problems the Ares has run into & presents a pretty good case for the mutineers.

Here's the 'official' site for the Jupiter team:

The answer to the question in the subject line is "Yes".

Was this supposed to be a poll?

Gee...SA....you'd think that news like this, and info/images of a new launch vehicle concept, would prompt you/someone to mention it here. It's new-news, especially the part about it being directly pitched to Obama (mid-Jan).

I searched "Jupiter" and "mechanics" before posting...nothing came up. We all know about the Ares, and most of us know there have been many problems in it's development. But I do NOT think many know about the Jupiter proposal/challenge; who's behind it, etc. If they did, I'd think someone would have mentioned it.

Actually, it was discussed quite a bit on the previous (now corrupted) version of TRF. This is fairly old news, but I provided the Wikipedia links for those who want to read the tons of info and go to the other externally linked sites.

Popular Mechanics and Popular Science loves to print articles about panic or fear inducing topics as well as futuristic and fanciful or fantasy topics. Like "Flying cars in every garage". They ain't "Scientific American".

We could use the Weekly World Science News. Until then, we have The Onion:

I had a build thread on here before The Crash...I put it up on RP with some updates...
