Decals/Textures in Rocksim

I'm doing a 30-day trial of Rocksim. Getting decent-looking 3D renderings is just way too difficult for my taste; I'm too spoiled by OR in this regard. Right now I am struggling to figure out decals/textures, which are behaving in various counter-intuitive ways. What really kills me is that when you go to edit a component, the main rocket view switches back to 2D side view, so you can't see the effect of the changes you're making until you exit. Driving me nuts. Is there a way around this?

Anyway, can someone briefly explain to me the parameters here (other than Scale, which is obvious)? Right now I'm just focused on body tube decals.
