Hello everyone!
I am excited to share with you the report of Curt Von Delius' amazing two stage flight at XPRS. He considers this flight a successful test to prove the airframe for future flights of larger impulse in the same stack.
Recently he published a sort of 'press release' and suggested to me that I share it here. I am still unsure of who the original writer of this article is, going by the name 'Dusty Camp', but I believe it to be Jonathan D. Getting clarification on that.
Download it here: View attachment Von Delius.pdf

But here it is, the story of Curt's CTI M3400 to N1100 two stage flight to almost 96,000 feet.

I walked anxiously over to Curt's campsite Saturday around 7am to see that he was up, fed, and already assembling his vehicle for flight. His lovely wife Monica running him through a checklist and making notes of times as the project came alive.

The vehicle went into Curt's pickup along with a few prep supplies, and we all departed for the pad. Within 15 minutes the rocket was in the tower, the GPS was singin' and we were plotting the kml in 3D in real time.

Altimeters get armed, the tower gets double checked, cameras roll, and we bug out!

The M3400 came to life in a hurry lifting Curts ~50lb rocket up with great authority, and thoroughly waking the neighborhood. The blue thunder chunk from his igniter is kicked out and ricochets off the playa.

The boost was fast, and arrow straight, piercing the utter blue above.

Drag sep, nice 6 second coast, and the N1100 comes alive! Again, movin' out and straight as straight gets. The high altitude winds push the smoke trail around a little bit over our heads.

The rocket soared to over 95,000 feet, and the best part of it all? There was an onboard GoPro!

I will let Curt's release tell and show you the rest for now. We have more to come!

Thanks for lookin!

Cheers Ryan! Awesome flight Curt! Out of curiosity, can we get any more info on that ISC? It's briefly mentioned in the report.

Curt’s unique interstage creates a very rigid stack while under boost with no friction or tip-off during drag separation.

The 3rd image above shows it quite clearly but I'd love to know/understand it better. Does it couple via the nozzle of the sustainer?

Most of us are playing with Lego's compared to Curt's "stuff".

Tony,

Is Curt a machinist? That's some beautiful design and machine work.

It looks like he either machined an entire new closure or added a few inches to a stock closure.
