Are silicone-based rubber bands less likely to break than latex-based ones in a Chute Release? I have stored latex rubber bands in a dark and dry environment and the bands still easily break. Is there a better way to store latex bands? Someone suggested to me to store them in talcum powder. Any experience you can share will be appreciated.

From jolly logic. The kit now comes with black bands.

Be careful. Not all hair ties are the same. I used one and had it snap in half when the chute ejected. Parachute deployed at apogee and my rocket drifted into a tree.
Do some test stretches on one to see how easy they break.

I have had very good luck using the black tactical rubber bands easily found on Google

I got a bag with various (3) different sizes-3 1/2in x 1/2in- 2 1/4 x1/2in- 3 1/4 x 1/4) and pick the size that seems best for the rocket/parachute that I am using. This was basically trying one size and see how it ground fit/tested with the JLCR.
