Check your lithium cell phone batteries

I haven't opened up my cell phone battery compartment for months. Plug in the charger when the power is low, unplug when it's back up.
I needed a pin # to reorder minutes so I opened it up today thinking that the pin might be in the battery compartment. It wasn't, but this is what I found.

A very swollen Li-ion battery.
I've read that swollen lithium batteries are a danger to explode or burst into flames.
Taken out of service, looking for a replacement.

I have had this happen to my Apple Watch.

I don't know the odds of this happening, but I suspect they're within the risks people usually accept in other products or circumstances.
