Hi all,
I have saved data from previous flights on my computer collected from a Raven 4. I had to do a wipe of my computer and re-install the FIP software. I now get an "Unable to open input file" error shown below.
Screenshot 2024-07-21 143115.png
It is a company laptop and it does have .net installed, however, I can't confirm if FIP is accessing it.

If I click "OK" I get the following error:

The "Details" of the error are below.

See the end of this message for details on invoking
just-in-time (JIT) debugging instead of this dialog box.

************** JIT Debugging **************
To enable just-in-time (JIT) debugging, the .config file for this
application or computer (machine.config) must have the
jitDebugging value set in the system.windows.forms section.
The application must also be compiled with debugging
enabled.

For example:

<configuration>
<system.windows.forms jitDebugging="true" />
</configuration>

When JIT debugging is enabled, any unhandled exception
will be sent to the JIT debugger registered on the computer
rather than be handled by this dialog box.

Any help will be appreciated.

Regards,
Nick

So is this the file that now fails to load for you?

I actually have a new PC that did not have FIP on it yet. I downloaded the installer

https://www.featherweightaltimeters.com/uploads/1/0/9/5/109510427/fipsetup_full_-2013-04-04.exe

from Featherweight's web site and ran it. I could see it installing the FTDI serial port drivers (for USB) and then when it went to launch, windows popped up a dialog indicating I needed .NET 3.5 and asked if I wanted to install it. I clicked yes and it downloaded and installed and then started FIP again from the start menu and was able to load your file and view the graph.

Can you confirm that this is the same file that now fails for you?

Thanks!

Hi,
Thanks for checking. It does fail. I suspect this is because it is a company computer that has been locked up. I installed .net 3.5 but there is already another version on the computer which I have to wait for IT tech to remove.
I think the lack of all the admin rights has caused issues.

Will Featherweight releases a Mac version of the software?

We have not been developing the FIP interface beyond the Raven4 as the new Blue Raven has it's own phone interface and ability to export data for graphing elsewhere. Adrian did start a thread about wanting a generic interface for graphing but not sure how that has progressed.

Having said above, I stepped away from Featherweight development as my 'day job' was taking too much of my mental energy... I am now going to be retiring before the end of the year so might have some 'hobby programming' time to play with... No guarantees at this point though... ;)

I realize you are hiding the path as it is a company system and probably contains your username, but do you know if you account without admin privs has write privs to that location? The first step FIP does in this case is convert the binary .FIPa file into a text file in a format similar to the 'old' Raven3 format. That file has an extension .FIPa~txtFormatted. To me it looks like it tried (so I'm skeptical .NET is the issue) but then couldn't open the file it expected to create.

But regardless....

It ends up that FIP can also directly load a .FIPa~txtFormatted file so am attaching the copy here. I renamed it to just a .txt extension as it appears I can't attach the 'weird extension' file to this post.

To use it, save it to your PC and go into FIP and do a file Open. At that point, it only shows .FIPa files, but if you change the file type (right) to "All Files (*.*)" or if you type in *.* into the file name space, then it should show you the .txt file you saved to disk. Then click on it and try to open it.

Let me know if this works for you...

Hi,
I shouldn't have blocked out the file path. That was the issue. There was a space in the folder name that caused the issue. Once I changed the folders name to have no spaces, it opened up fine.

Thanks so much for your help.

ok, ironically i wondered if there was a space in the path so i had already saved your file to a directory containing "dir with spaced" (mistyped) but it still worked for me.... "C:\Users\small\Downloads\dir with spaced\1_Newtonian_12Mar22.FIPa"

so maybe that was the root cause - or not - but either way I am happy you have your data! :clapping:

For others reading this thread, I should be retiring soon from my day job so you might see me involved more again... I hope no one regrets that... !! :D:D
