I just heard about this, and this is all I know. Someone has submitted Senate bill S. 941 to somehow revise/reform (improve?) the BATFE:

----------------------------------
from an NRA email:
Senators Mike Crapo (R-Idaho) and Patrick Leahy (D-Vt.) introduced S. 941- the "Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives Reform and Firearms Modernization Act" - on April 30. Senator Leahy is chairman of the Senate Judiciary Committee, to which S. 941 has been referred.

S. 941 represents the first time such BATFE Reform legislation has been introduced in the Senate. However, the House passed similar legislation (H.R. 5092) in the 109th Congress by a 277-131 vote (http://clerk.house.gov/evs/2006/roll476.xml). A majority of the House - 224 congressmen, (http://thomas.loc.gov/cgi-bin/bdquery/z?d110:HR04900:@@@P) - cosponsored a similar bill (H.R. 4900), in the 110th Congress.
----------------------------------

So, do we as taxpayers/voters/concerned citizens get to make inputs to this process? Does anyone have more details about what is going on, or what is the intent of the new legislation?

We should get active with our elected representatives and make as much noise as possible--POLITELY-- if we want a chance to influence this process.

And while (if?) we talk about it here on TRF, let's make an effort to keep posts informative, constructive, on-subject, and not start smearing or insulting anyone in government.....no matter how much they might deserve it.

Republican vs Democrat type of politics, not us vs. them. When it pertains to rocketry and the government then it is allowed as long as there's no mud slinging.

We need to know what they're up to;)

Looks like it's just been introduced, and Thomas, the Library of Congress' tool for searching legislation doesn't have the text posted yet.

That's correct, political point of views or discussions aren't permitted. However, legislation chatter is - provided you don't cross the line.

Previous versions have been only about firearms laws in 18 USC Chapter 44 and not the explosives laws at 18 USC Chapter 40.

Nothing to get worked up about unless something different turns up in the submitted text.
