When I ordered my Loc IV, at the bottom of the screen Apogee suggested an 18" chute protector. Not doing any research but still wanting to try new things, I ordered that too. Turns out I only need a 12" chute protector. Is the one I have too big? As long as when everything is packed in the BT and ejects is that all that matters?

I don't see why the larger one doesn't work. Just attach the chute protector to the shock cord a "chute" distance from the chute attachment point. That way you ensure the chute is pulled out of the protector when the cord is stretched.
