Build Thread: Quest HIGH-Q

I was lucky enough to be gifted a rocket!!! This is a kit that I had my sights on before I decided to go for my Level 1. I’m very excited to get a chance to build one and fly some mid-power motors this fall.

This kit came in a nice box, pretty standard fare inside…


This kit came with a long length of kevlar cord, so I chose to notch the centering ring and tied the shock cord to the motor mount. I feel a little silly and I am kicking myself for it now, but I glued the knot to the bottom rather than the top ring. I think it should all work out in the end

I'm building another mid power rocket right now that I plan to fly on G's, this one I think will be primarily E/F motors. I am doing epoxy fillets on that one, for this one I slapped it in the fin jig and got the fins attached with TBII.



I plan on doing a threaded motor retainer, so I measured and made sure to leave a little bit of overhang to give me room to JB weld that sucker on when I procure it

Primer/Paint next, thinking of a Burgundy/Orange/White scheme for this one. (I can always be convinced to change my mind, so don't hold me to this)

Plywood TTW fins may be a good idea but the kit included centering rings are the same material that AeroTech uses in their kits and those handle 'G' motors just fine.

I built and flew a High-Q kit when it first came out.

Building the kit was easy. Matching the factory paint scheme took some time and effort.

PS: The kit was originally designed to be two-stage.

I’d like to build one of these, but make it stronger with lite plywood fins TTW and CR’s.

I built mine with TTW fins from Apogee and upgraded the motor mount to 3 wood retainers

The fins from Apogee are slightly larger but that should just add to stability.

Rokitflite is still alive, just no time to make kits. The model next to it is the Eggsecutioner which like the 2-stage version of the High-Q, never got released.

We got some MUCH needed moisture this week in my home town, but it has put a damper in the paint process. Hoping to enjoy a week of 80º temps to make some progress.

Yeah, took a U-Turn and headed in a totally different direction!

What size motor mount comes with this kit? I'm planning out some future purchases (personal project) and sources online conflict. Some claim 24mm, some 29mm.

I'd also be grateful for this stat for other kits in the Enerjet lineup, if available.

I see the phrase "Enerjet kits" and I think of the classic Enerjet kit line (Nike Ram, Aero Dart, etc.).
