Troj: What is your L-3 rocket?

By the way: If you ever need to add a Kevlar strap due to whatever,[breaking the old one] it can be done with a 2in section of coupler. File a groove in the side, slip the kevlar in the groove, slide down into the tube and epoxy in. It doesn't have to go all the way to the bottom. I've done it, and just pushed it down far enough to clear the av-bay,when assembled.

Question on another rocket topic.
I just go back from doing some work on the SLI project I am involved with.
Launch opportunities begin next weekend for a test flight, weather permitting.
The problem we ran into today was we have a bad switch for one of the altimeters.
If we can fly next weekend we will use twist and tuck on that altimeter.
If we can not fly we will use the time to change out the switch.
Since you have some experience with the SLI program my question is.
For the SLI flights at Huntsville does NASA permit using the twist and tuck method for arming altimeters?

Snot. 4" phenolic w/ carbon fiber, fiberglass nosecone, little itty-bitty fins. "Sleek, fast and stupid" is how I describe it. On an M1850GG it sims at Mach 1.4ish.

Nope. I don't believe in KISS, I believe in flying what makes you happy.

Being afraid of failure leads to boring rocketry.

Learning from failure, and changing things accordingly, leads to interesting rocketry.

I don't recall anything specific about it, but my guess is they'll prefer you have actual arming switches.

You can always do a test flight with test & tuck (I prefer twist & tape, so I can reach them to disarm, if I need to), then swap out the switch after.

BTW, SLI is one of the coolest rocketry things I've ever been a part of!

It has 75mm. Decided not to do minimum diameter.

Electronics are a BeeLine GPS in the nose (so it can get a signal!), and a PerfectFlite MAWD and MissileWorks RRC2 Mini.

BTW, if you buy Liberty Launch Systems' AirFest 13 DVD, you can get a peek at it, fully painted.

Yes, I've had it that long without flying it. I actually shipped it to Ed Miller in PA for the paint job. I've just never gotten off me duff and finished the electronics mounts.

I do recall when watching that video, a short clip of you with a rocket on your shoulder saying it was your L3 rocket.
I don't recall getting a good look at the paint job.
At the time I thought it was odd that the video did not show the flight.
So when and where do you plan to fly this one?

Yep, that's the one

I don't recall getting a good look at the paint job.

I need to post some photos.

At the time I thought it was odd that the video did not show the flight.

Lots of people think there are odd things about some of my rockets....

So when and where do you plan to fly this one?

Not sure, just yet. Thought about it at LDRS this past summer, but I decided not to rush the final bits, so I just packed it up, and put it away.

May fly it this spring. May wait until AirFest. Not sure, yet.
