Binary star nova that happened 1800 years ago will soon be visible!

The most disappointing thing is that the article says that it will appear as a new star in the Northern Cross. Doesn't that pretty much mean that those of us in the northern hemisphere have almost no chance of seeing it?
 
the key word here is Northern. if you can(in theory) see the big dipper then you should be able to see the northern cross.

Okay, I'll buy that. I guess I was thinking of the Southern Cross (southern hemisphere) versus the Big Dipper (northern hemisphere). I admit that I'm not an avid skywatcher, but I have pent time outdoors attempting to find the various major constellations, but I've never even heard of a Northern Cross.
 
once apon a time I could see the dippers...alas light pollution these days makes that a challenge.
