1,175-pound firework in Steamboat Springs, Colorado. It was the largest caliber shell ever fired in North America and possibly the heaviest anywhere in the world.

I feel like any PGI or WPA member working on such a project would know that there are other 1000lb+ 48" shells that have been fired. While any shell of this size is an impressive feat, I feel like this particular one being a plain chrysanthemum may not be quite as impressive as some of the other shell of shells or multi layer varieties even if a slightly more dense load.

Not to take anything away from what they did, but there are videos of a many huge and hugely impressive Japanese shells that put that one to shame:
