I am historically LPR and decided to go ahead and get my Level I certification. I am buiding an Apogee Zephyr HPR and I'm not sure as to whether I should mount a 38mm motor retainer or what? I want to maintain the ability to use H or G motors. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

For the Apogee Zephyr, I’d recommend sticking with the 38mm motor retainer since it gives you more flexibility with H and G motors.

If you're on a budget you can use basic Z clips to hold it in place.

I have used this plastic retainer from launch lab on a couple of my builds and it has worked perfectly. I have already bought a couple and dropped them in my Zephyr Kit bag and will be using them on my MDRM and Minni Magg builds. The Aeropack piece is nice but pricy.

I mounted an aluminum 38mm screw on retainer. When I want to use 29mm motors, I use an adapter with it's own 29mm retainer and then masking tape to keep the adapter in place (no 38mm ring). Makes everything stick out more so the rocket can no longer fin-stand, but that's temporary until the flight is over. Then I pull the adapter, and screw the 38mm ring back on.
