Barnard's Star Planet

Some astronomers believe they have found a super-Earth orbiting Barnard's star, which is only 6 light-years away. The rumor that Barnard's star had a planet goes back 60 years ago, long before the current wave of finding exo-planets even began. Interestingly enough, many years ago Larry Niven wrote a science-fiction novel that took place on a planet orbiting Barnard's star.

I remember when I was a little kid in the early Sixties, 3-4 years old, just about the time I learned the difference between "our" solar system and "the rest of the universe," Barnard's Star was being talked about in news stories as having planets.

Astronomy magazine reports about the long history of the planet around Barnard's Star reported by Peter van de Kamp at Swarthmore college.

The first time I read about the planet around Barnard's Star was in "Missiles, Moonprobes, and Megaparsecs" , a book written by Willy Ley in 1964.
