Some astronomers believe they have found a super-Earth orbiting Barnard's star, which is only 6 light-years away. The rumor that Barnard's star had a planet goes back 60 years ago, long before the current wave of finding exo-planets even began. Interestingly enough, many years ago Larry Niven wrote a science-fiction novel that took place on a planet orbiting Barnard's star.

I remember when I was a little kid in the early Sixties, 3-4 years old, just about the time I learned the difference between "our" solar system and "the rest of the universe," Barnard's Star was being talked about in news stories as having planets.
