AV-BAY for an LOC IRIS 3

Hi all - after many questions to all you talented folks, I completed my first av-bay with a FW GPS Tracker and magnetic switch. The av-bay goes into a LOC IRIS 3 payload. This not a dual recovery setup. Instead, we stayed with the standard design and will use an Aerotech H 112J-10, as it runs out well on RockSim.

As an aside, I haven’t launched a rocket since my 30 year old daughter was a little girl. I started rocketry in 1967…with a ALPHA 1 from Estes. Had a few others back then. Going for my L1 certification on this launch.

I am also adding an Astrocam to the airframe. Just for kicks. I’ll keep y’all posted on my results next month.

Another idea: put a small amount of epoxy on your soldered wire connections at the terminals. Don’t glue the screws- just a dab on the wire and insulation at the terminals. Very solid connection.

Have you had issues with the FW Magnetic Switch? I think it’s pretty good.

One more suggestion... zip tie all the wires to the sled so they can't move. That will prevent anything from coming loose in flight.

Yes. I have them fastened on the underside and will secure them on the side pictured in my post. Thanks.

A hot glue gun works very well to secure wires to the board. Also easier to remove than epoxy.
