Not sure where you are in FL, but if you're near either coast consider the maritime industry. Maritime tends to have a bunch of smaller mom-and-pop companies with a few corporate behemoths. The big corporate ones are probably similar to what you've seen in other places, particularly in IT. But there's definitely opportunities in the smaller ones. Also, there's a massively graying workforce that needs renewal. Maritime is a big field (shipyards, boat operators of many kinds, etc.) If you can swing it, there are integration companies out there that are very much in demand as everything becomes more dependent on electronics. The integrators basically make sure that every piece of equipment can talk to everything else it needs to.
If you want to get out of IT/computers, there are many opportunities for careers in shoreside management or boat crews. Getting a license to be deck or engine room crew may take a year or so (but ask local companies, they might have entry-level opportunities), but then you will likely have a job for life someplace.
