Finishing an old PML Matrix Kit...got a 3" phenolic av-bay kit for DD. I'm about to drill screws to attach bay to payload section, but wondering if using the 4/40 size PEM nuts & screws...like I do in my smaller fiberglass kits...is best way to go?
  • are those screws too thin, and maybe likely to either rip thru the tube, or maybe pull the PEMs thru the tube if apogee deployment is a bit late?
  • would bigger screws be better, or worse?
  • when drilling QT, is plain drilling the best way, or would drilling a bit smaller than required & then widening hole with a heated awl or whatnot be better? Thinking here is that melting the edge of hole might make it stronger/reduce stresses
  • or should I just use plastic rivets for this?
  • similar/same questions for rail-guide holes, though I'm thinking a flanged T-nut will be better than a PEM nut; more surface area 'grabbing' the BT
