I've used piston ejection since I picked up the rocketry hobby again in 2009. I have used pistons in 29mm rockets through 6" dia. rockets with 100% success over the years. And I'm one of those that places the bulkhead end of the piston UP (I know that's incorrect- lol).
My BP charges always seem to be a bit more "energetic" (LOUD), even though I use a BP/shear pin calculator- oftentimes in the range of 15psi. Is there any data out there that points to using lesser pressure when employing a piston?
Thanks!
