Yep... Never had one, but always liked the looks. That fiberglass fuse sure stood out among all of the slab sided kits that were the norm.
This is my second one. The first was in the early 80's. The fuse and wooden fin were white, the rudder and full flying stab were transparent blue, the wing was divided in equal segments for transparent red on the outside, white and finally trans blue near the wing roots with a field of white stars. Then the clear canopy was shot with a trans blue. Beautiful finish. Probably do the same on this one I have.

Sounds beautiful, have any pics? There is just something about gliders and transparent colors. They are obviously lighter than most opaques, but it is also just such a wonderful look!

Speaking of transparent blue, here is my decidedly NON slab-sided Dyna-Flite Talon slope missile... Ailerons are getting new hinges, please pardon the tape. (Please pardon the drops too, it was starting to rain when I was taking the pics!)

Speaking of slab-sides, this is one of my original design scratch built gliders. 76" span, all wood constriction with money-cote and paint finish. Rudder and elevator control, designed for easy, light air slope floating or high start.

Very cool original there!

I do a lot of RC here, but a long time rocket guy as well.

Where do you slope soar down in the Temple area? The couple of sites I used to use many years ago in Fort Worth are now overgrown with trees.

I fly a lot of warbird and EDF electrics. Here are a few of mine. Lots of ARFs, but I typically customize them. Also fly a little 1/2A glow and a touch of everything else. The EDF powered flying boat is my own scale design, a Russian Beriev Be-200. All balsa and a little bit of plywood, covered in Monokote. No foam, no composite, no laser cutting, no plastic parts....:)

Ha ha, yeah, that is the 64 dollar question! Both of those gliders were built when I was living out in Califonia. No shortage of good slope sites there!

As for the Temple area, there are a couple of small-ish bluffs I have seen out at Belton Lake that might be doable if the wind was right. There's a spot at the dam that look like it might be decent. Not sure any of them would really let the Talon rip as designed, but the floater would probably be happy.

You and @Steven are men after my own heart; I build all of my airplanes the old fashioned way too! I did discover depron for my smaller electric stuff, but they were still built-up, pseudo scale, painted, finished airplanes. (BTW Tom, I absolutely LOVE the profile version of the old HAWK Beta-1 Bomber kit! 👍 👍 👍)

We moved to Temple several years ago, and I have been mostly involved with rocketry since then, but I need to get out to the local RC club and get established there too. The have a very nice field right on the lake, so I could indulge my interest in flying boat designs. Stunning Beriev, by the way, do you have any plans?

Why didn't we have all these cool planes when I was a kid... I only had a Cox UFO that I was able to get to fly well once, and the engine started only a couple of times. These modern electrics are Totally F****** AWESOME!!!

Anyone ever possess a Kavan Bell Jet Ranger?
Here are a couple pics.

Never possessed one, but worked at a mail order hobby shop in college that sold a lot of them. Helped a friend build one and had a turn at the TX. Very sporty to fly in the days before gyros for yaw stabilization.

A heck of a product back in its day.

Mig-29 is very cool! Love the afterburners! I had a Freewing Me-262 which flew well but would only get about 4 minutes run time; sucked the batteries!
Here's a couple buddies holding my Me-109 for run up;

If there was a good slope within a 2 hour drive, I would make the drive.

Thanks for the kind words. The Hawk Beta-1 was actually a failed E6 RMS RC RG. It had an odd flutter mode involving the tip mounted engines and disassembled on the first launch. Decided to convert it to a pusher electric and it has a number of flights on it. Great fun. At high-ish speed, the tip nacelles are thinking about fluttering the wingtips again.

I have to confess that I built the Beriev from some very basic construction sketches only. I keep procrastinating drawing the real plans in favor of building other models.

When things return to some semblance of normality, make sure you hit the excellent RC swap meet down the highway from you in Georgetown, every January, assuming you have not done so already.

Me too!

Ha ha! I remember looking at the plastic model and thinking that those long nacelles cantilevered out in front of the wing would be inviting some pretty rowdy guests to the flutter party, but it makes for a great looking model!

The old GWS Beaver foamie kit had very thin foam wing that, if dived at full throttle, would begin a very slow (~ 6-10 Hz) flutter that looked so hilariously silly that I used to do it on purpose. 😜

Yup, we truly ARE alike... Even my free-flight stick and tissue plans are so rudimentary that I doubt anyone else could decipher them.

Have not! Sounds like fun!
