This is my second one. The first was in the early 80's. The fuse and wooden fin were white, the rudder and full flying stab were transparent blue, the wing was divided in equal segments for transparent red on the outside, white and finally trans blue near the wing roots with a field of white stars. Then the clear canopy was shot with a trans blue. Beautiful finish. Probably do the same on this one I have.Yep... Never had one, but always liked the looks. That fiberglass fuse sure stood out among all of the slab sided kits that were the norm.

Speaking of slab-sides, this is one of my original design scratch built gliders. 76" span, all wood constriction with money-cote and paint finish. Rudder and elevator control, designed for easy, light air slope floating or high start.

Very cool original there!
I do a lot of RC here, but a long time rocket guy as well.
Where do you slope soar down in the Temple area? The couple of sites I used to use many years ago in Fort Worth are now overgrown with trees.
I fly a lot of warbird and EDF electrics. Here are a few of mine. Lots of ARFs, but I typically customize them. Also fly a little 1/2A glow and a touch of everything else. The EDF powered flying boat is my own scale design, a Russian Beriev Be-200. All balsa and a little bit of plywood, covered in Monokote. No foam, no composite, no laser cutting, no plastic parts....

Here are a couple pics.Anyone ever possess a Kavan Bell Jet Ranger?

You and @Steven are men after my own heart; I build all of my airplanes the old fashioned way too! I did discover depron for my smaller electric stuff, but they were still built-up, pseudo scale, painted, finished airplanes. (BTW Tom, I absolutely LOVE the profile version of the old HAWK Beta-1 Bomber kit! )
We moved to Temple several years ago, and I have been mostly involved with rocketry since then, but I need to get out to the local RC club and get established there too. The have a very nice field right on the lake, so I could indulge my interest in flying boat designs. Stunning Beriev, by the way, do you have any plans?
Next flight was better!
If there was a good slope within a 2 hour drive, I would make the drive.
Thanks for the kind words. The Hawk Beta-1 was actually a failed E6 RMS RC RG. It had an odd flutter mode involving the tip mounted engines and disassembled on the first launch. Decided to convert it to a pusher electric and it has a number of flights on it. Great fun. At high-ish speed, the tip nacelles are thinking about fluttering the wingtips again.
I have to confess that I built the Beriev from some very basic construction sketches only. I keep procrastinating drawing the real plans in favor of building other models.
When things return to some semblance of normality, make sure you hit the excellent RC swap meet down the highway from you in Georgetown, every January, assuming you have not done so already.
