Now that the B.O.S.S kit by Estes is out for grabs I think it’s “ridiculous” that people on eBay are grabbing them up and trying to selling them for more money. It’s not like its a one time deal for this kit. Everyone including myself will be ordering one and when they run out they will replenish their stock in a short time. This kit will be around for a while. What will happen over time everyone will own one and there will be an over stock issue then they will eventually go on sale. Following that sales will slow to where they will be OOP. This is quite some time away but to grab them and sell them for more money, that’s crazy. No one is going to pay more on eBay when you can get them cheeper at an wholesaler.
Dose anyone know more about the So Long 29mm rocket kit that Estes is suppose to be releasing in 2023? I would like to get that one to. I wish Q-Jet or AeroTech would make a booster motor because of the F15-0 and F15-8 being black powder there is such a high HAZE MAT fee you can’t afford to fly it.
If you look at the B.O.S.S. as a “typical” sci-fi kit that’s the curve those kits reportedly follow - being a member of the Designer Series line might give it a bit more longevity, time will tell. As far as people taking advantage of early adopters and initial scarcity imagine how the folks who paid
thousands over MSRP for a Chrysler PT Cruiser feel
A short discussion about the #9722 So Long on YORF, not much concrete info but some well-informed supposition, the body tube is probably BT-52H, the parts count is probably pretty low - no motor retention for the sustainer, a couple motor blocks for the booster and sustainer, some kind of bulkhead or nose block for the payload bay, streamer recovery (no word on whether the streamers are plastic or nylon), that new version of the PNC-55BB nose cone, launch lug, fins - that should be about it. Some talk about the 29mm booster motors not having enough “oomph” but from past online discussions with Estes designer John Boren I’m sure he’s flown his prototypes with those motors many times.
You could use a QJet as a booster without modding the motor - you could use a sealed and vented booster then igniting the sustainer with electronics would be an option, especially since there’s already a payload bay intended for altimeters.
