I crewed on a yacht for Wednesday night races for a couple of seasons. I really like the smaller yachts, around 28-30', because you get to do more than one task. On the larger yachts, say 40', the crew was much bigger and tended to have a limited subset of tasks to perform. Good fun on the smaller ones, but not too small 
. I did have my own 14' cat for a while but preferred the larger boats.
At least I wasn't throwing my $100 bills in the water, most of the time. Skippers are usually just happy to get crew to be able to get out and have some fun.
