I chose the Estes Storm Caster. It looked like a really neat rocket, so I had to get it. Chris was there with me on Saturday when I got it and he said it was a good rocket.

Great choice. I have one and I really like it. Gets about 400 feet on C11 motors and about 850-900 feet on a D12-5 and is quick getting there.

I also flew mine on an 18mm adaptor and a C6-3 for a very nice flight, same altitude as the C11, just slower and cheaper too.:D

Or, if you build it tough and get really brave, you could put an Aerotech 24mm SU motor or 24/40 reload in there but I wouldn't reccommend it if you don't have a lot of space.

Good Luck:)

Hello,

The Estes StormCaster is a very underrated rocket. The through the wall fins, "D" engine mount, and large size make for a great rocket.

Best regards,
Brian

I definately agree! An AT E30 will do wonders for your Stormcaster, but as they said, make sure you have a BIG space for E and over. This is probably one of my favorite Estes kits!

an E30 would probably send it about 1500-2000ft. and FAST. i simmed my estes eliminator on an E30-7t at 2300ft and a peak speed of 411mph. thats not too slow, especially for a lightweight plastic kit. lol. thats E30 is quite impressive.

The Stormcaster is a great rocket! It's an easy build, but yields fairly impressive results. We got one for my 5 year old son last year for Christmas, and I helped him build it with an Estes E motor mount - just push the engine block back an extra inch, and put in an E-length hook, and you're all set for an E9! Keep us posted!

Ya know, I do that now with almost every D-engine kit I build ... just build in an E-sized mount to start out with.

I figure, I'd rather be able to launch it with a D or E right from the start - that way, you don't have to do any modifications or anything, it's already built that way.

Andy,

I never thought to cluster the StormCaster. How does it fly as a 3 engine cluster? What is the max. altitude?

Best regards,
Brian

Brian , it gets around 1200' on C 6 -7's thats the only motors I've tried in it. I found it flys well with only 2 lit also.

With B6's it sim's to around 600'

I did add nose weight , my notes say "12 BB's with epoxy" however much that equals.

I agree with everyone It's a great kit for the money.

I don't kow when I'm going to start building it. He said he was wanting to show me some techniques on how he builds rockets before I start on it. I'm really impatient though, b/c yesterday, I opened it up and read the directions, and I said to myself, "When can I start?" :D I think it's going to be kinda easy and fun! When I get pictures, I'll scan them and then post them. I just learned how to use the scaner (I'm really slow), so I'll be posting some of me and Chris, and of the rocket we built together. Also, I wanted to be different with my rocket. I don't want to paint mine the way the pictures show, and I don't want to use the decal thing. What I was thinking was either painting it 2 shades of blue, 1 shade would go on the fins and nose cone, and the other shade would be the rest of the rocket ( Chris favorite color is blue ), or I could paint the rocket blue and the fins and nose cone yellow. what do ya'll think?

Can't go wrong with blue and yellow. Paint the fins and nose a bright yellow, and the body a dark blue. gotta love it!
