    Help me out here...

What are the upcoming launches with a waiver for 50,000 ft and higher?

Although it's nice to look at this new rocket it wasn't built to be a shelf queen lol.

The waiver for KLOUDBusters launches is 50,000' AGL. Extended altitude arrangements above 23,000' up to 50,000' must be made with prior approval from the KLOUDBusters BOD. These approvals must be submitted at least 30 days in advance of the launch.

    Chuck,

Not only launches with a 50,000+ AGL waiver, but also ones that will permit Class 3 launches.

What's the situation on motor testing ?

If the current motor(s) won't provide the necessary Thrust / Weight Ratio, you may need to move to a different Propellant formulation and Nozzle configuration.

Been in the northern Nevada desert for two weeks plus now.

Once back in Houston will get back on the project!

    Thanks!

OK finally back home after 3 weeks chasing the gold fever lol. I'll tell you what that is some fun stuff to do. If I could wave the magic wand I'd live in Lovelock Nevada and spend even more time digging a tunnel.

Need to get this rocket finished even though it won't launch for awhile. Rail guides and the (16) 1/4" attachments for the AvBay are the first order of business.

After that it's going to be the testing of the charge cannons then getting those installed into the rocket.

Looking forward to building and then testing some big motors. I've got one complete 10 ft "R" motor casing and am waiting on the hardware for the second 10 ft casing.

Big rocket and big motors. Still have a steep learning curve ahead but it's exciting to be able to do something like this. Heard there were some EXCELLENT flights at BALLS!

    Thanks!

    Good question.

It's tight in a couple places but easy to sand. While not wanting it too loose we'll use nylon shear pins to keep them secured.

With cooler weather finally coming into Houston this will be a fun project to work on in the rocket barn. Still haven't put in the A/C I had planned on. Now it can be put off until next May lol.

The rocket is still in the exact position on the Levi Seaton Mobile Launch Platform as when I parked it in the barn a month ago after LDRS. Was starting to feel that "rocket guilt" we all have when we know we need to stop goofing around and work on our projects!

    Chuck,

Thermal expansion will be different, depending on weather . . .

A "perfect fit" in Winter might be a "no-go" in Summer, whereas a "perfect fit" in Summer might be a "sloppy fit" in Winter . . .

    Proceed with caution !

Yes that’s a good point and why shear pins are a must.

    Thanks!

    Good question.

I guess BALLS 29? Would have liked to do 28 but the motor just wasn't ready. My (and many others') motor mentor Pat Gordzelik decided to take a powder for a couple months. Although he is one tough cookie he had to chill for just a bit.

Now that he's quit being a big baby we can start to formulate the plan for what this rocket needs... and that's an "R" motor. It's what it was built for and it's what it's going to fly on.

The Tripoli C3RC folks are some of the sharpest in our field. I learned a great deal submitting the launch paperwork for LDRS and BALLS. I'd give myself a "C" for my work on that. The next time around it's going to be an "A" because with experience comes wisdom. The next round of application-filing for the waiver is going to be top-notch.

With the rocket just about done the focus can go towards the characterizing and testing for the "R". It's a serious motor and a serious rocket. This should be a great experience!

    Thanks.

Hey guys my brother and I had some good fortune out in Nevada last month.

Rocketry and gold-mining are two expensive endeavors to put it lightly! However there is now a need to purchase some expensive equipment for our mining operation. Like most of us I have a full-time job but will need to spend as much time as possible out on our mining claims.

Am going to convert some hard-won rocketry supplies into cash. There's not a big rush but I'm going to start moving some of this gear. I'll be putting things on the forum classified section and the other stuff will simply be sold through word-of-mouth.

With gold now at $1500 an oz the activity in places like northern Nevada has increased substantially. We finally got down to bedrock last month on a couple of mining claims and as many of you know bedrock is where the gold sits. Even then there's a lot of work involved in tunneling. Machinery like an excavator and bulldozer is a must. Lots of us watch Gold Rush right lol?

Levi Seaton's mobile launch trailer is in my opinion one of the best in the country. The guy is a professional.

Along with (2) 10 ft motors and the liners/sleeves to make 5 "R" motors those are really the big-ticket items.

Got a 30-qt mixer new in the crate. 450 lbs of the best 200u AP out there. 70 lbs of quality 90u AP.

Hundreds of feet of Kevlar and all sorts of other supplies.

It was a blast building this rocket and you all were great! Please check out the Classifieds on this forum. If any of you have suggestions on how best to move this stuff I'm listening. I'm not desperate at all but there will be deals to be had lol.

    Thanks again!

    Chuck C.

This reminds of of the story about an engineering class going on a flight to a conference. The class and professor get on the plane and take their seats. The pilot comes on to announce that the plane they are riding on was designed by the engineering students in that class. All the students get up and run off the plane while the professor sits calmly. The pilot asks the professor why he didn't run off the plane, isn't he concerned the plane will crash if the students have no confidence in their work? He replies he knows his students and this plane won't even start.

Just calling them like I see them.
Call it a dose of reality.
With no motor, no motor data, no sims and no C-3 paperwork, it was pretty obvious this isn't going anywhere soon.
    Nice tease, though.

It was a blast building this current rocket! It's ready to fly... when I can get some time it only needs a motor, a rail and a waiver.

I simply don't have the time in the foreseeable future to build a couple of "R" motors . It will probably be at least a year as we focus on our mining.

Started finding some nice gold on the bedrock! I have to admit we do have the Gold Fever lol.
