Just got back from St Louis and Chicago, to visit family. I got to swing by Al's Hobby Shop in Elmhurst IL. Very nice shop, friendly staff, good selection of Low power kits, (what I was after since I had limited luggage space, the top of my book bag), to view the HP equipment, and all the top flight chutes, you have to get escorted downstairs. Anyway they are running a 25% off all kits and a variety of deals on motors, chutes, etc, as build up to Midwest Power. If you are in the area stop by! I don't know if the sale is online as well, plus it seems like free shipping is standard, except on motors due to hazmat.

I got a Fliskit Stingray, a Semroc Point (my first kit from them). and 2 Top Flight chutes for less than $36

A2Z Hobbies is also located in Elmhurst, ILL and typically has much better pricing. Check out www.a2zhobbies.com

Al's 25% off prices are pretty similar to what A2Z has on a day-to-day basis. Al's is generally 25% too high when they aren't running a sale.

didn't know about A2Z, thanks for the info, I'll have to check them out next time I'm up that way.

They have a warehouse that is open to the public. Just call them first and they'll let you browse the warehouse.

:dark: I don't think you could have purchased any of these from a2z, they don't show on their website. Al's Hobby is a great vendor for HPR as well and one of the few LOKI distributors around. Just my couple of cents worth there, TIFWIW or not. :confused2:

I agree. A2Z tends to be is an LPR dealer. Only a couple of 4" kits and nothing above that. With regards to pricing PML and LOC kits are commonplace and are semi-price-regulated so all dealers are within a few bucks of each other. When buying for HPR, it is hard to beat Al's Hobby especially during a sale.

Al's pricing is great on HPR stuff, especially LOC 7.5"/4" Airframes, Aeropack motor retention, and recovery gear.

I've placed a couple of +250$ orders from them this year. Free shipping and their discount rocketry coupons made Al's the cheapest source for a few of my projects.
Excellent vendor!

Al's gets my vote. Catch them during a sale--they have lots of sales--and the prices are fantastic. They have an extensive inventory--including lots of high-power. Ken is super to deal with and always treats me right. I just received two Rouse-Tech motors and a 120" Top Flight parachute from Al's at great prices. They currently have virtually all rocketry products on sale. As others have stated--shipping is free. If you spend $25.00--you get a $3.00 coupon. Spend $150.00 get an $18.00 coupon. Best prices going.

I have to admit, I love Al's!

They do have the best selection of stuff I've seen here in the midwest: LPR, MPR, HPR; Semroc, Fliskits, Sunward, LOC, PML, Aerotech, etc.

If I ever think I'm going to travel to Chicago I make sure I give Ken a call and see what hours he's working that week. He's always been great taking me into the basement to show me the "expanded" selection. On the occasion he's not there, or my trip doesn't coincide with his days, he always ensures that someone will be there to help me.

And the rest of the store is awesome as well, with all of the r/c stuff.
