It helps hold the delay assembly in place. If the delay remains fully seated in the bulkhead it will likely work. If the motor has been dropped or bumped, it could move out of position and hot gas could leak past it. As someone suggested, you might want to use it in a saucer.
So how important is that thrust washer in a G79 29mm loadable Aerotech Motor? It fell out of the casing while I was epoxying and didn't notice until it was too late...
