Has anyone used an Aero Pack 29/38mm adapter in a 38mm retainer with single-use motors? The instructions say to glue a forward thrust ring into the motor tube for the longest case you expect to use but I would prefer not to do this. How about a normal rear thrust ring made from masking tape? The 1/2" masking tape is a little wider than the thrust ring on a RMS case, but I test fit a single-use motor in the adapter and there seems to still be plenty of thread engaged on the retaining ring. Has anyone safely used this method?

I have the Aero Pack 38mm retainer installed on my PML Phobos along with the Aero Pack 38/29 adapter. I can't imagine why you need a thrust ring...(maybe I should hunt down my instructions?!) I didn't need a thrust ring at all. I have used the Aero pack adapter in my Phobos 4 times. The only catch to the Aero Pack adapter is that it *must* be used with one of their motor retainers to work properly. Aside from that, it's a breeze to use. Perhaps its biggest drawbacks are the price (~$20) & that it's heavier than most motor adapters since it is made of CNCed aluminum just like their retainers! While I have not had a motor CATO in my Phobos, I bet that the adapter could withstand pretty much anything a 29mm motor failure could dish out! Super products as long as you can afford them!

lalligood,

The question was using the adapter with single-use motors that don't have a thrust ring. The instructions do say to install an "engine block" in the main motor tube (38mm) if planning to use single-use motors.

The tape will work fine. Add a little to the sides of the motor as well kind of like a friction fit.
There is a company that makes clamp on aft thrust rings for single use motors.
Can't remember who right now, Someone chime in here.

1/4" wide masking tape can be found as "quilting tape" in the sewing section of some WallyWorlds or craft stores.

Sorry about that... No problems when using 1/4" masking tape on single use motors with the Aero Pack adapter. Works like a champ! :D

Wow, I've never heard of a device like that before although I would imagine a small 1/4" hoseclamp may work just as good. Hmm...

why would you spend money on a fancy retainer than wrap it with masking tape ? you can do that without the retainer!

there is nothing wrong with installing a motor block to the longest motor you plan to use , why not?

Not the retainer -- the SU motor that fits in the adapter that is held in place by the retainer.

if you don't like tape, for 29mm SU aft thrust rings, why not cut a small ring of 29mm MMT and glue it on the motor.
