Eggtimer Rocketry is proud to announce the Eggtimer Voice Module, an add-on for the Eggfinder LCD receiver. It adds a spoken voice (“Eggbot”) to the output of your Eggfinder LCD receiver. It’s compatible with all versions of the Eggfinder LCD receiver board. It’s specially sized to fit into the new Black Aero V3 case (see the picture below), however it will fit into just about any case that you may be using with your Eggfinder LCD receiver. It comes with a standard 3.5mm jack for use with earbuds, or you can attach a cable to it and plug it into your club’s PA system, an external speaker, or your car stereo.

If you have an Eggfinder GPS transmitter, it will speak your rocket’s compass position and distance when you’re in the Compass screen. This is great for keeping an eye on your rocket during flight, it tells you which way it’s drifting and how far. If you’re in the Navigation screen, it will speak the distance to your rocket and the number of degrees left or right that you need to go. It makes recoveries much easier and potentially safer… you can keep your eye on where you’re going instead of having to look down at the screen all the time.

If you’re using your Eggfinder LCD receiver with the Eggtimer Telemetry System, it will speak your real-time altitude at programmable intervals, plus apogee, deployment events, and ready/not-ready for your altimeter (some of these are dependent on the altimeter and version). If you have an Eggtimer TRS, you get the best of both worlds… you get the altimeter telemetry plus the GPS stuff.

The Eggtimer Voice Module will be available in early November, boards are on the way. The price for the kit will be $20, however we’re going to be discounting it to $16 until the end of our Holiday Sale… but more on that later. :)

As always, thanks for all of your support!

It depends on the version of the board, typically you'll solder three wires, but it's pretty easy. There will be pictures in the build docs, when I have the production boards in a couple of weeks. The next version of the LCD board will have a special header for it (like we did for the GPS module).

Really excited about this! Do you expect the Eggfinder receiver GPS modules to be in stock around the same time?

Just looked at my Black Aero v3 case and see what look like hole locators on the inside of the front piece. Is that what they are?

Last word from the distributor on the GPS chips was late November. The Voice Module will be available around November 1st.

There are two short posts underneath the GPS module on the Black Aero V3 case, there's a tab on the EVM board that you don't see in the picture that screws into those posts. If you have another case, you can attach it with four #4 screws, if you want you can mount the 3.5mm audio jack and the headers on the back side, or you can panel-mount the 3.5mm jack and attach it to the board with two wires (one bridges the left and right contacts on the jack). We designed it for the Black Aero V3 case because we expect it to be extremely popular, but it will fit just about any case out there.

Hmm, so many tough choices. Do I buy two for my Quantum/EggFinder setup? Or do I get one (for now 😆) and I buy a TRS? 🤔

Is there a way to save the voice stream (or even to apply voice processing of past collected and saved GPS data streams) for combining with rocket videos.

I’ve seen the posting of launch videos from onboard rocket cameras with Multitronix Kate’s voice synchronized with the video.

IMO, this would be one of the ultimate ways for the users of any GPS to show off the functioning of the a new voice mode.

Every year Cris...Every year, you put out something that I have to buy in your holiday sale.
I'm not saying that's a bad thing...it's just a thing. :) Excited about this one!

You'll want one for every receiver... :)
If we had a TRS with the Telemetry module attached, would we still need to have two receivers and two Voice Modules to get the telemetry and GPS information by voice?

The TRS basically sends out both a GPS and an altimeter telemetry stream, you'll be able to get both with one receiver. The GPS coordinate screen already shows you the altitude and deployment status, so if you're on that screen you'll get that spoken to you plus your apogee. If you switch to the Compass or the Navigation screens, you'll get that data instead.

I don't have an audio clip, but I'm planning to put one together, with the corresponding display on the LCD display showing the data from the Eggtimer Telemetry Module.
Definitely excited for this!
