Finally was able to do my L1 cert. It was rather eventful, especially when RSO started yelling "HEADS UP!"

Was using DMS Aerotech H550, RSO said he thought the forward seal blew through the ejection well. A lot of heat done a number on the internal cardboard.

I had the EXACT same failure with an H550 DMS, wont ever buy one again, especially seeing this happen to yours mine was not a one-off case058DAEE7-4CDE-4DC9-A46A-0C4F89397E3F.jpeg

Just a follow-up on my rocketry adventure.
Peeled off the forward section of tubing and replaced with new.
Added some primer and paint.

Loaded another H550 and sent it up. Flight was flawless. My photo abilities of moving rockets is terrible, about as bad as posting pics with text!
Anyway, took my L2 test, added 100 additional grams to the nose with a J435 on the aft end along with a pair of JLCR for redundancy. Came home with L1 and L2 certs.
Thanks to all of you for the input.20210418_154455.jpg20210420_230856.jpg20210426_203848.jpg

Wow.

I've flown more H-550's than any other (high power) motor, and it's not close. I've also watched many H-550 flights from others. I have yet to see a DMS failure on one, but of course, there's always next time to be initiated.

Nice job on the repairs. I tend to not want to be unmotivated to repair rockets, so I am lousy about leaving damaged stuff in the corner and tend to work on new.

After my initial shock of rocket burning and got a plan together, it wasn't too bad. I was glad it was not damaged any worse.

I had a DMS H550 blow up like that. Aerotech replaced it with an RMS H550 and that flew perfectly.
I'm looking to get a motor case and start burning some RMS motors, want to put a K in the Hawk, the DMS options either put it close to mach or to slow off the rail.
The options for motor cases seems unending, especially for a newbie!
