Finally was able to do my L1 cert. It was rather eventful, especially when RSO started yelling "HEADS UP!"
Nylon shock cord burned off so the tube hit hard, chute stayed in protector till the fire went past, all that wasOh no! Equipment all okay?
Was using DMS Aerotech H550, RSO said he thought the forward seal blew through the ejection well. A lot of heat done a number on the internal cardboard. That sucks. Any idea on cause?
Mine failed through the ejection charge well.I had the EXACT same failure with an H550 DMS, wont ever buy one again, especially seeing this happen to yours mine was not a one-off caseView attachment 460652
Wow.
I've flown more H-550's than any other (high power) motor, and it's not close. I've also watched many H-550 flights from others. I have yet to see a DMS failure on one, but of course, there's always next time to be initiated.
Nice job on the repairs. I tend tonot want tobe unmotivated to repair rockets, so I am lousy about leaving damaged stuff in the corner and tend to work on new.
Yes, it was very noticeable. I wasn't sure what to expect but thought it would be a higher pitch.Did you get that classic Hawk fin whistle on the way up with the J motor?
I'm looking to get a motor case and start burning some RMS motors, want to put a K in the Hawk, the DMS options either put it close to mach or to slow off the rail.I had a DMS H550 blow up like that. Aerotech replaced it with an RMS H550 and that flew perfectly.
