I think I was in Junior High or High School and I was sitting in the cafeteria and a friend came up, sat down at the table and said "the Shuttle blew up." I had no idea what he was talking about and he said one or two more times, "yup, it just blew up." He didn't give any more details and "The Space Shuttle" didn't come immediately to my mind (we had shuttle buses that went from school to town, which was the usual reference to "shuttle"). I thought he was trying to be funny and failing, so I shrugged it off. In the days before internet and cellphones, I had to wait until arriving home that night to find out what he was talking about. I quickly found out.

My wife and I took our sons to a doctors appointment. My mom came with us for some reason. She stayed in the waiting room and when we returned she said the shuttle exploded. I said no it launches. Then I saw the video 😞
