ROSCO launches are sport launches - meaning that only commercial motors may be flown.

ICBM launches are research launches - meaning that both commercial and research (by qualified flyers) motors may be flown.

Set up for the day begins at 10 am. Range is open until 30 minutes before sunset. Any help with set up and tear down is greatly appreciated! All dates are subject to change or cancellation. Please check before coming to the field.

Launch location: 8840 Camden Hwy, Rembert, SC 29128

Canceled: January 11-12 launch due to high winds and possibility of rain. Sustained winds of 10-15 mph with gusts to 25mph. Rather than having people travel and not be able to fly or all of our rockets ending up in trees, we are cancelling the launch.

Cancelled: March 7-8 ROSCO Sport launch
Due to heavy rains this week and high winds, the March 7-8 ROSCO Sport launch is cancelled. Our next launch is the April 18-19 ICBM Research launch. That launch is later than usual because of Easter.

Cancelled: The April 18-19 ICBM Research Launch is cancelled. With the stay at home orders in most of the areas where our members live and active cases of Covid-19 in Kershaw and Sumter Counties, we have decided that it is in the best interest of everyone that we cancel the launch. We hope that we will be able to have the Spring Freedom launch on May 23-25. If we do, it will be research all 3 days. Stay healthy!

Freedom Launch is cancelled for May. We must be responsible. We are trying to schedule a launch in the near future. Please be patient.

Canceled: The June 13-14 ROSCO Sport Launch is canceled.
Folks, we are canceling the June launch. We would have to severely limit attendance and we would rather cancel at this stage. We are working diligently on permission to fly in July. Please be patient. Stay healthy!

We are planning a July event. Fingers crossed that so we can get this up and approved to launch safely.

Just don't call it a launch. Call it a Rocketry Protest

July ICBM Launch is Canceled. Out of an abundance of concern for the healthy of our members and the public, we cannot hold a launch in July. We will hope for better numbers and focus on August for our next launch. We just can’t support traveling in 4 states (SC, NC, GA, FL) with the highest COVID rates to hold a launch.

After careful consideration and due to restrictions in South Carolina Governor Henry McMaster’s new Executive Order 2020-48 (https://governor.sc.gov/sites/defau...ve Order No. 2020-48 - State of Emergency.pdf), we are canceling the August 8-9 ROSCO launch. The new order requires face coverings or masks as a condition of admission or participation in outdoor events and cleaning and hygiene practices as recommended by AccelerateSC. These restrictions would make the launch untenable.

With the average August temperatures on the field expected to be in the mid-90s with heat indexes of around 100 to 105, we can not wear masks/face coverings all day on the field without the significant risk of heat injuries. The cleaning and hygiene practices would be so burdensome that we would be unable to provide a port-a-potty for the launch.

Check back for updates on the status of Freedom Launch.

Terrible to have to do it, but with 3500-5000 infections a day in GA/SC and the new requirements in SC to have a gathering, we just can't do it. Fingers crossed for Freedom Launch.

Any decisions made about Freedom Launch? I have called the motel in Lugoff where we usually stay, and they will be open as usual, and the clerk reports a limited but usable number of restaurants offering take-out and drive-through, in the Camden/Lugoff area.

Alan: We are having a virtual meeting to discuss it. We will post an update afterward.

Consider Freedom Launch canceled. We cannot get approval to hold a launch.

Freedom Launch (September 5-7, 2020) is CANCELED.

With the continuing COVID-19 restrictions and infection rate, we are canceling Freedom Launch (September 5-7, 2020). We are working on reopening guidelines to ensure the health and safety of everyone attending and to preserve our future use of the current launch site. Thank you for your patience and understanding in this trying situation

We have rescheduled the launch for October 17. If you are interested in being on the list to attend, PM or email me.

Sorry but I will wait until you are not scheduling people to fly in shifts and only allowed on the field at that time.

Brent, we are sorry that we might not be seeing you on the field. As long as we have local officials placing restrictions on us, we will do either shifts, a lottery, or splitting into two days to allow the most people to fly if we have to. There was more interest in this launch than what we would normally have. Since we knew it could only be one day, we thought shifts would be a better option than telling half of the people that they could not fly at all. If anyone has a better solution to accommodate everyone and still comply with local requirements, please let us know. We want as many people as possible to enjoy flying rockets with us.

Rule 9: Use the facilities before you arrive. There will not be restrooms or port-a-potties available on the field.

Where would the closest facility be... just in case?

The woods or the Dollar General about a mile away. Until the authorities change the rules, port-a-potties are verboten.

My heart goes out to everyone all over that want to fly but can't due to Covid restrictions..
Please be aware, there are worse reasons for you to not be able to launch ( like being sick )..
You are all so patient and the people that run the clubs are trying their hearts out to get a launch to happen..
For us all, as individuals,
as long as we don't throw caution to the wind, there will always be next year..

Teddy

Thanks. We are on the field for our first COVID launch. Lots of disgruntled folks don't like the rules, but I did not choose them on my own. Many of them have been listed on the forum, but each one is based on a requirement from the Public Health folks and requests from the land owner.

The launch date is November 7-8. We have not made a decision on this month's launch. We are keeping a close eye on the COVID numbers. To sign up for the launch, message me with your name and the number of people in your party.

We are at our limit for Saturday, November 7. We may have an opening for Sunday, November 8. I am waiting to hear back from a couple of people.
