How many people start off the season with setting some goals or general objectives for the year?

I've got a list of 9 or 10 rockets I want to build (originally had 12 - one a month - but decided that might too ambitious). I'd like to add a tracker to my repertoire - it seems like any flight that's much above 2000' ought to be carrying one. And I want to start pushing a little higher/faster. Since going to L1, I've only flown H motors once in a while, nothing bigger than a 3-grain 29mm. So, I don't know about going to L2, but I at least want to make the most of what L1 allows. So, that's what I'm planning that's new for the hobby for me.

Rockets on this year's build list:
MAC Radial Flyer 54mm
Algonquin (my design)
WAC Corporal 3"
MAC Scorpion 54mm
Estes Saturn V
Altair (my design)
Ram Jet 4" upscale
Smokin'38 (upscale of my design)
Advanced Target Drone 54mm upscale
Hercules (my design)

I may throw in an occasional LPR kit here and there. But I've also concluded that I way too large of a build pile. I'm going to have to sort out some quantity to "recapitalize". Anyway, who else has new goals for 2017 season?

Make more than the three HPR launches I made this year

Get my L2

Resist buying more kits until I take a sizeable chunk out of the current build pile. Black Friday all bets are off. :)

Host the TRF summer buildoff contest

Get others interested in the hobby. Current idea is to do a high power demo launch at one of the RC airplane events in the area.

Project list:
Finish the Polecat BBIII (L2 project)
Madcow mini Frenzy, BBII, and cardboard Pike
Madcow BBII 2.6"
Wildman Drago XL 4" (also onboard video with this one)
Madcow Sea Wolf 4"
Pemberton Kraken
FlisKits Mini Mercury Redstone
Big Daddy glassed and 38mm motor mount
Plus some other LPR kits on the wall, but the above list is going to keep me pretty busy

Fly as many motors as I can in the back yard with my daughter.

Get my L3 so I can strut around giving wedgies to all the L2's and L1's.

L2. The bird has been test flown three times. The Chute Release rigging has been perfected. The motor (J316 Pink) has been purchased. The L2 study has been memorized. The wallet is empty.

Hmm. I have a few things I'd like to get done

Level 2, I have the hardware, may as well use it, at least once
Air starts
Tracking

Finish:
Madcow Tembo (juiced to a 54MMT)
Big Daddy
Mega Mosquito

Build:
Binder Design Tyrannosaur and use it for my L2
Super Neon XL
LOC Viper IV and use it to break into air starts

Get this scratch built, tube fin rocket in my head built
Not buy any more until I complete the above list - unless I splurge on a MAC Performance kit.

- Finish my L3 project, and successfully fly it (in primer)
- Break 3 miles AGL (previous best 13.9k)
- Break Mach 1.63, i.e. 1250 mph (previous best Mach 1.37)
- Go back to Airfest (none of the above can happen without this one)

L3 build and cert. Rocket on the way, Wildman Ultimate Darkstar

Complete 3" scratch build designed for Hybrids and fly at least 4 times next year with a hybrid motor.
Complete 54mm (38mm MMT) scratch build for EX 29mm and 38mm flights
Work up to possibly test firing a 54mm EX motor toward the end of the year. Fly one if I get it done soon enough.

Probably a bunch of LPR/MPR.

Building goals
Build a MD rocket (RW Mongoose 54)
Learn how do tip-to-tip layups with both FG and CF (related to the previous goal)
3D printed sled
Scratch build an upscale Estes Magnum Payloader

Flying goals (all will require travel to a field with a higher waiver)
L2 (almost there)
Play with onboard video
Break mach 1 (Holdover from last year. I'm too chicken to build and fly the Mongoose.)
HPR 2 stage
20,000 ft (Ambitious because I'm not even close to this yet.)

Most important goal
Keep my kids building things instead of playing video games!

1) Fly more rockets, 2016 wasn't that good.
2) Complete my current build pile, which consists of four kits at this moment (MadCow mini DX3, Wildman Drago 4XL, Wildman Blackhawk 38, and a Gary T Designs Painkiller Micro).
3) Repair damaged Wildman Jart.
4) Purchase/Build a new kit I have my eye on, Wildman Drago 5.
5) Design/Purchase/Build a two stage 54mm Drago, 38mm motor booster and 29mm motor sustainer.
6) Complete Bronze level of NAR's NARTREK program.
7) Fly at Midwest Power.
8) Spend more time with my rocket friends.

Well, since I completed about half of my goals from last year, I'll keep it a bit more conservative.

L2 cert
Dual deploy & chute release
Looks like NAPAS could be up and running again so a bit of HPR
Boatloads of LPR!

Complete my 1/2 scale Nike Apache interstage adapter (and the rest of the rocket ) for staging O-M to around 50k' at Thunda Downunder 2018.

I also have a 54mm performance bird to build to replace a lost rocket.

Renew NRA & Tripoli membership
Join PARC; re-up Tulsa Tripoli
Build out MPR / LPR Jawstand incl. rails
Finish NARTREK
Participate in TRF Summer Santa
Dominate TRF Summer Buildoff
Attend Airfest & High Frontier
Build thrust stand incl. temp & pressure
Work on autofollow rocketcam
Get a Tripoli record ( the good kind )

I will start by assuming the BroncBuster II is completed and ready to fly by New Years.
--Fly Big SAM again (H225)
--Test Chute Release in BroncBuster II, then fly it on an H, I
--Build modified Ventris (Vertigo II) with transition ebay for main deployment testing, then fly it on an H or I
--Build modified Argent (Unnamed) with transition ebay for apogee deployment testing, then fly on an H or I
--Build modified Partizon (H.A.P.I) with ebay for Dual-deploy training, then fly on an H or I
--Buy (and hopefully build) Madcow Phoenix for next official Hi-power rocket, fly an I
--Build whatever I got for Secret Santa from AC Supply Co :)
--Get certain other items from wishlist to round out Lo-power fleet (need more 24mm and don't have 13mm yet)
--Continue planning L2: modified Loc Cruiser (dual deploy) Possibly another L1 h-power electronics training craft.

Goal #1 - Fly rockets and have fun. No pressure or expectations, just do what I want at the time. Or just go watch. Or just help with the range so others can have fun and fly. No worries man.

Goal #2 - Complete NARTREK Gold.

Goal #3 - Fly my Sky Wolf on an H motor for Level 1. Although not really a "goal"...I've already built the rocket. I've got it fully modeled in RockSim....various loads flown and charted, CP/CG plotted....so it's just a matter of flying it and getting it back. I'm ready to answer the basic questions asked about the rocket, planned flights, balance, etc. NARTREK Gold is going to be more difficult.

* Watch my son fly his 2 stage project
* Fly my own 2 stage
* Fly a hybrid
* Work on 3 stage project ;-)
* Fly a research motor
* Finish stuff in the build pile to make more space in the lab!

Going to be a limited year for me.

Definate goals-
MAC Zodiac 54mm, Fly on a 38/1200 load.
Paint everything that's piled up.
Optima 29mm cluster on H220T
Make and fly some 29mm and 38mm EX

possible goals-
build 4" Wildman Extreme
Build Mongoose 75
obtain hardware for above and fly

Sell off some unused kits/things I'll never fly.

L3
Couple of 2-stagers (PM Quantum & mine based on Tomach)
Go to a few launches and don't launch, just help out
Antenna research (900 MHz) planar vs dipole vs ...
Celebrate CTIs return to full HPR production, eh
Fly my existing fleet and slow my build-madness

Suggestions?

and for me:
- Get my L2
- Build what's in my pile (don't need more kits, both rockets and R/C planes!!)
- fly everything in my fleet at least once (that's ambitious! with over 75 birds..)
- Dual Deploy, possibly
- break 2500' .. maybe make it a mile high, to join the club

- Finish covering my GP Extra 300 (been about 3 years, only <script id="gpt-impl-0.7862577165430502" src="https://securepubads.g.doubleclick.net/gpt/pubads_impl_107.js"></script>partially covered!)
- Fly more R/C (join another club that's closer to me)
- Bike more / bike to work in the summer
- Build MOCs for Annual Lego show
- Cook more, less restaurants
- Build back deck!

Project goals.

1. Finally get my L3. Third time's a charm, right?

2. Fly a 3" minimum diameter M to 30k+.

Launch goals.

1. Attend Dairy Aire.

2. Attend Aeronaut.

3. Attend XPRS.

4. Attend October Skies.
