Well, for those who are interested in TARC, the 2008-2009 contest rules have been published on the NAR-TARC e-group on yahoo.com (for those who are members of that group). They'll probably be up on the TARC website www.rocketcontest.org in a few days.

The highlights:
(a) Organizations (schools, youth groups, churches, etc.) can now have up to four teams. Teams have a minimum of three members (unchanged) and a max of ten (10) members (that's a new lower limit).
(b) The rocket is still required to be under 3.3 pounds with a maximum propellant load of 62.5 grams each - single stage only - clusters are OK as long as the total propellant doesn't exceed 125 grams. The external diameter of the rocket at the point where the egg is mounted must be at least 59mm (but no maximum is specified). Looks like you'd have to use at least a BT-70 or bigger. Anyone for an Ares "look"?
(c) The task is:
Fly a single egg (which must be mounted so that the longitudinal axis is perpendicular to the flight direction of the rocket - the egg is 'laying on it's back like an astronaut') to a height of 750 feet and a time of 45 seconds (height/time is unchanged from last year).
(d) Second round flyoffs will consist of 20 teams versus 18 from this year.

For those of you who may be entering TARC this year - good luck! For those of you who have an interest in mentoring TARC teams, summer is almost over - now's the time to be making contact with your local middle and high schools to see if there's a teacher that would like to include rocketry in their curriculum or as an extra-curricular activity, but who needs an "expert" to help out! You might be just what they're looking for!

Cool. This means that our team can still use the same rocket from last year.
