It looks like a great challenge, Nick!

And a really good way to get more people to participate even more in EMRR.

Does this count as my mention of the EMRR 2005 Challenge, or shall I start a new thread and mention it there? That's what I was going to do until I searched and found this thread.

Thanks.

Participate in EMRR, yes, but more so a challenge for rocketeers of all capability for 2005. Have some fun with the hobby!

I replied to you to answer this question: I said, "If you were me, how would you respond?".

I also added a slight change to the challenge. The mention must include a link (or reference) my home page.

I'm enthusiastic about the challenge and look forward to see what people come up.

Thanks,
Nick

Nick,

A couple questions.

1. If I have a rocket that I built and flew last year but never reviewed, is it still eligible or does it have to be built and flown this year?

2. Challenge 6 is 1 point -or- 5 points depending on whether you just build a free paper rocket or design one. If I build and fly one for 1 point, can I design and build one later in the year and get the 5 points instead?

1. EMRR can not confirm when people build the rocket. We can only tell when things are submitted to EMRR. The spirit of the competition was that all actitivities of the challenge would be in 2005. That being said, I have already received two reviews from competitors and seeing how it is 1/4, not likely they were built in 2005.

2. Yes. Now you are seeing some of the strategy!

Both these Q's will be posted in our Q/A section.

Thanks,
Nick

Would he get just the 5 points for the paper rocket design and build, or would he get the original 1 point PLUS the 5 points later?

5 points, not 6

I used to be in first place. :) Then a second person entered the contest. :(

I like the clickable tracking bars. One request: Could you color code the event numbers in the table to match the color bars so we can tell which one is which?

More, more, more... that's all you folks ask for! :D

Done.

Thanks, Nick. Would you prefer that we ask for less, less, less? :D

Nick, if I were to build, fly, and review six of the rockets on the EMRR hit list, is that still worth just 5 points, or 30? I actually have built two of them since Christmas, and bought another one yesterday.

I see that you say the maximum score in the Challenge is 39 points, which probably answers my question.

If you've only BUILT them, then you've only completed 1/3 of the requested task ;)

And it looks like you answered your own question... :p

Max of 5 points for the contest. But if you review 6 rockets from the Hit List and are first to do so, then you will be entered 48 times for the Quarterly Rocket Give-Away!

And now for your next question, which was just added to the Q/A from someone else:

I was also wondering what happens if you purchase a rocket to review that is on the hit list but after you get started someone else posts a review before you do? Will it still count?

Yes

Yeah, if someone reviewed every rocket on the hit list, they could accumulate hundreds of points in the Challenge if it were being run that way. At least this way, someone who flies rockets every weekend can't get ludicrously far ahead of other contestants.

Or maybe someone from TEXAS, who can fly in the winter, can't get too far ahead of northern contestants. :p ;)

Until the weather warms up I can't paint anything much less fly it.:(

Snow today, winter storm tomorrow. Will it be snow or will it be ice?

Oh Joy, Oh Joy !!

Nice update to the page with goal lines now....

2005 EMRR Challenge

People are progressing along just fine. We have a bunch of reviews we are working on formatting which will add some more points to the program (don't forget to thank Lance Alligood and Dick Stafford who I strongly consider part of the EMRR team!)

I was wondering what those funny lines were for... I almost thought my browser had gone berzerk-o on me :p

Yes, I am working on over a dozen reviews today. There are even a couple more new ones from me--one of which is a paper rocket, leaving me with only *one* task (upscale/downscale) left :D And I have 2 rockets (a Binder Design Dragonfly upscale & a Deuce's Wild! upscale) that I am currently working on that will satisfy that requirement! Eat my dust

But I don't want to be the only person to accomplish all of the tasks! C'mon & join in!! Give me some (more) reviews to format, please ;)

Oh, no... you just asked for it. I just kicked off the "second opinion" rally. Go to EMRR's Home page to learn more.

I built and flew three Art Applewhite UltraDeltas, but Dick Stafford beat me to writing the review. With the Second Opinion drive, I guess I will go ahead and write my own review.

Usually it's Chan Stevens who beats me to the first review.

Right, but let me tell you... Joe Policy is starting to really bang them out now...

All it takes is a little good weather and I start to come alive. Besides, someone has to give Lance a run for his money (or his prizes)! :)

I believe in quality, not quantity. :p
I may not have reviewed that many rockets, but I try to make up for it with megabytes of photos and rambling text.

Watch it! I've been the rambling text expert on EMRR for several years now. It's even been mentioned in some of the "opinions" on my reviews. :D
Welcome to the "team", Bob. As one of my rocket buds once said, "You'll be read by literally DOZENS of people." ;)

 I don't know if I'll be able to handle that much pressure! I'm more acustomed to being ignored.
Welcome to the "team", Bob.
Thanks, Bill. I feel like I am among good company.

Yeah, and the team jacket has cool wrap-around sleeves! :p

Just did an update to the EMRR HIT LIST. These will help folks in the 2005 Challenge to have some more choices. And don't worry, if your rocket is crossed out, for the Challenge you can still submit it.

Regards,
Nick

About 1 month left folks..... hurry up. What happened to some of you? Well that is why it is a challenge.

BTW- will a little bit of searching and/or intelligence you can have a sneak peek at the 2006 Challenge.

Ask Q's for the Q/A now...

Tell me what you think....

I found the preliminary page for the 2006 Challenge (and no, I will NOT tell you how to find it! :p ) & let me tell you that Nick has come with entirely new challenges that could only be described as pure genius.

I really got a kick out of doing the 2005 Challenge (not to mention a great sense of accomplishment). Next year is definitely going to push me into territories that I have never ventured into & it should be a whole lotta fun doing them!
