3D Printing 1515 Conformal Rail Button Backplate Mount

This is a continuation from my 1010 Conformal Rail Button Backplate Mount design that has been upgraded to 1515 rail buttons for use on 1515 launch rails. It's purpose is to provide a way to mount the rail button nut so that it does not interfere with the operation of the recovery system.

This place where the nut sits is designed to fit the 1/4"-20 nut.

There are two designs:
A) This will fit 6 inch airframe tubing that has an ID of 6.0 inches (152.4mm).
B) This will fit 6 inch coupler tubing that has an ID of 5.775 inches (146.69mm)

This is exactly what I needed. I made my own but the top rail backer that I made is too bulky. I could see shock cord, chute, something hanging up on it. So, I've hesitated to use it. I used mine down by the motor tube but until now, I didn't like my options for the upper button.

The other day I wrote up a quick OpenSCAD script to generate rail button backing plates. It lets you pick the size of the airframe tube and the size of the machine screw. Should work almost anywhere. Rename the attached ".txt" to ".scad" and enjoy.

Even better. I printed the other one but the hole for the nut is too small for the hardware that came with my rail button.

Scale it up one to three percent in your slicer and then print it.
