1 Parachute or 2?

What are the pro's v con's on using one chute or two? Be specific. I'm not planning on two recovery pieces, but one. Also, should you use extra line on the shroud line for better separation or just use the shroud line attachment point, etc. Also, what methods do you use to calculate the descent rates,etc.

Two parachutes look cool, but the more complicated that you make any system the greater the chance of failure. They could tangle or get stuck in the rocket and fail to deploy.
