thrust kno3

Hi, new to model rockets. I have been experementing with Potassium nitrate and Sugar engines, I have the engine firing fine but cannot get enough thrust to get lift off. I have a Core through the middle of the engine. Does core diamater matter? Any help or suggestions with getting enough thrust...
