After further examination it appears the construction method for the Nike smoke nose cone is a conical mandrel with filament winding, then it looks as if a body tube size transition is placed in the shoulder of the nosecone for transition purposes, and the nose cone is coated with a filler resin...

This is a 4" smoke kit from performance (made by curtis). The NC has a shoulder as you can see.

Yes, that's very true. A crowd fund attempt would give a good idea of what kind of market may already exist though. To my knowledge something like that hasn't been done in the hobby. A special kickstarter kit or something along those lines.
