F22 Raptor - Madcow Frenzy XL Remix

I wanted to devote that much time to it and make it match as close as possible but with a busy month before school starts back up I decided to wrap it up. Im happy with the results and it was never intended to be an F22 themed rocket to start but I thought it would be a fun project none the...

    Full Scale V-2 Rocket Build

13_Year_old_Rocket_guru, I completely understand being ambitious and not wanting anyone to stand in the way of your success because thats how I am but at the same time I also understand that to make it to where you want to be, you need to make relationships with your peers to help you along...

Parachute Opening Force and Inflation Time Calculations

Hello again TRF, Right now I'm working on quantifying some of the parameters surrounding the recovery system on our collegiate sounding rocket team and was hoping to find some insight from some of the experienced members. I have being trying to use the infinite mass method for analyzing...

    Chester's Cheeto Chaser MKIV

That cockpit is freaking awesome! Did you have to do any modifications to the P-51 canopy before it was mounted?

Leviathan Build (for L1 cert flight)

I know you mention you haven't factored in glue yet but some fillets on the back can have some serious mass on a light rocket. I built a Leviathan awhile back as well and on an F26 the thing flew like a beaut. I think that some designs are prone to fly more stable than others even if they have a...

    Are internal fillets really necessary?

I wish I would have done this on my 4" Madcow Honest John. I don't like messy fillets on the inside of the body tube even though they will be hidden and trying to do them through the rear of the rocket is a pain. Great advice RocketFeller

Honest John MGR-1 Build Thread 4" Madcow

Got the bulkhead ribbed and feel really confident in the strength that these little ribs added. Also the last of the 16 internal fillets is done and now we can move onto the external fin fillets and put the final touches on the this fin can....just can't forget to mount the rear rail button...

Honest John MGR-1 Build Thread 4" Madcow

Thats definitely something that I have taken into consideration and plan to add strips of 1/8" G10 to the back of that bulkhead to add support to the ribs that appear to be the weak point in the design. As for the fins, the plates of filler on the sides is a concern too that I have but have been...

Honest John MGR-1 Build Thread 4" Madcow

With MMT fillets drying I decided to go ahead and spend some time on the signature band around the rocket and some other small bands that I have found on the test missile I'm modeling mine after. I purchased 1/16" thick painters board from Hobby lobby sliced a 9/16" strip down the side of it...

Honest John MGR-1 Build Thread 4" Madcow

Kruegon, the nosecone comes in two pieces with a short 4" coupler to join the two halves. I just glued the coupler in top of the transition and will hold the nose cone on with shear pins when the time comes. I plan to store the main in the nosecone but I could see it being made into a great...

Honest John MGR-1 Build Thread 4" Madcow

I decided to give rocketpoxy a try after reading many positive reviews on the epoxy. I like the one to one mixing ratio and my only suggestion after using the epoxy for the forward centering ring is that the epoxy needs to set for 20-30 minutes before use because it is very low viscosity after...

Honest John MGR-1 Build Thread 4" Madcow

I'm back from my 4 month hiatus and I have made some progress in the past week or so. All 4 fins are done now and after 2 pins of bondo...most of which was dropped on my work table when trying to lay it on the fins, the fins don't look half bad. The picture below is from earlier in the week...
