    Jazz, anyone?

The famous recording of Night in Tunisia that I have is with Dizzy Gillespie and Charlie Parker, live at "The Legendary Town Hall Concert, New York City 1945". It's actually a difficult piece for students, as it moves from straight to swing and back, so it's hard to get a good feel for the...

    Jazz, anyone?

I have recordings of Ella Fitzgerald, Louis Armstrong, Billie Holiday, and John Pizzarelli, but for the most part, I avoid vocal jazz, too. I have a big love for Duke Ellington's work, both early and late, so I do have a large collection of his big band stuff. Currently, I am working on...

    Jazz, anyone?

I just recently purchased Sonny Rollins' seminal album, Saxophone Colossus, and was really blown away by the solos. It's a great mix of tunes, including a wonderful rendition of "You Don't Know What Love Is." Listening to it right now. Great rocket building music. Keeps my mind focused and...

    Goonie Kraken

Yeah, but Estes didn't really make down-scales or Goony scales of other rockets, did they? That's something that Fred Talasco and Excelsior Rocketry started doing a few years ago. Anyone else before him do it? The Estes Goonies are just stupid flying toes and rabbits. Not Kraakens and Goblins.

    Recent Work: various Oddrocs

I have been working on a bunch of rockets over the past year. As this summer is slowly creeping along, I have in mind to finish a bunch of oddrocs before Labor Day: 1) I have a Paper Mache rocket, initially inspired by a project with my daughter. We took an oatmeal box and paper mached the...

    micro tog cato

I have had more CATOs with MMX motors than with 13, 18, 24 mm motors. I usually get the nozzle blow, or have also experienced one or two side-blows, which is interesting, because the casing unravels.

    Name my rocket

I don't know why people are having such a hard time with this. The rocket already has a label on it. Why not call it the "Snapshot"???

    Todays launch report, All cardstock

lessgravity is right about all the positives of paper modeling. I also enjoy designing my own rockets. I can create specific projects that are not possible with traditional means. Paper modeling just adds to the skill sets covered under the umbrella of model rocketry skills. Clive

    Estes Decals...Stickers???

No, I think you did give them a fair chance. My general feeling towards the stickers is negative. I know a lot of model rocket enthusiasts share my sentiments and we are disappointed in the decision Estes made to include stickers on certain rockets. Clive

Roll Call for people home with sick kids

Honorable daughter No. 1 is four years old. Honorable daughter No. 2 is 10 month old. The rash was caused by a change in moisturizing lotion. No fever or any other symptoms. Just the "itchies" as described by my oldest.

Roll Call for people home with sick kids

Oh, man... last week was a marathon with honorable daughter No. 2 sick with a bad cold and an ear infection. Meanwhile, honorable daughter No. 1 gets covered from head to toe with a strange rash. Fortunately, that was the easier of the two since it turned out to be contact dermatitis and...

NAR Model Rocketry Code in Every Model Rocket Kit

I think the model rocket safety code is a good idea, and I appreciate the fact that Estes includes it in their models. I think mandating the code is a bad idea. I think it would be in interest of manufacturers to mention, refer or quote the code.

Wow. Paper rockets, small motors, and the Blue Bird Zero! This is the coolest thing since sliced bread.

I have heard this before, but how many times does one come across used windshield wipers? My wipers get changed every three years or so.
