Upsale Big Daddy or Der red Max?

I just knew someone would throw out that remark.... just like the reply you get when you ask someone why they ride a motorcycle.... "if you have to ask..." The Phoenix is nowhere near as overdone as the DRM from what I have seen. But hey... it's not a competition.

    For my next project...

Just happened to browse the model rocketry fanatics group on Facebook before coming here and saw a very similar photo. I took another look and yep... same workbench! :) Enjoy the build!

Upsale Big Daddy or Der red Max?

Can someone state as to WHY a DRM is sooooo popular and overdone? I don't really care for the design of them so always wondered what the attraction is.

    Q2G2 replacement ?

I ordered some of those matches from https://electricmatch.com/rocketry/s...wire-initiator . Looking forward to receiving the package and flying them this season. Of course now that I ordered them I will find the package of Q2G2's that I should have around here somewhere. Been looking for them...

What did you do rocket wise today?

I understand about the safety aspect. How reliable are the commercial ones? Is there any test data posted by the manufacturers the reliability of their matches?

What did you do rocket wise today?

I did try burning a ball and it went slow so evidently they are not NC.

What did you do rocket wise today?

Well I didn't burn a ball but I did test 2 of the matches with my RRC2 and they both burned nicely. So far I am happy with them. :-) Next I will be testing them with my Adept22 and DDC22 after I get the vacuum chamber completed. And I will try to burn a ball to confirm as you suggested.

What did you do rocket wise today?

These are what I picked up - https://www.walmart.com/ip/Eastpoint-Sports-Eps-40mm-1star-White-Tt-Balls/27767057 . They did dissolve but I know acetone also dissolves plastic so not sure what these would be made of. I just finished mixing up the pyrogen and coating the wires. I will let them dry...

What did you do rocket wise today?

Today I started on making some DIY e-matches from instructions I found at https://www.jacobsrocketry.com/aer/homemade_wire-wound_igniters.htm to see if they would work with my RRC2 altimeter. I already had some of the items needed but had to order the nichrome wire and the mortar & pestle. I got...

    L3 4" Frenzy

I used West 406 Colloidal Silica for the motor mount. I used West 407 Low-Density filler for the visible fin fillets due to ease of sanding and some added strength. Here is a quick overview on using them from West -...

    L3 4" Frenzy

My Rocksim file says 13.2 lbs but that is without electronics figured in, and estimated weight of the chutes. I weighed the parts just now and actual weight without the electronics, payload shock cord and connectors, and the chutes comes out to be 12.3 lbs.

    L3 4" Frenzy

That sounds about right but not 100% sure atm. I can try to weigh the sections and post later for you.

    L3 4" Frenzy

Great work on the build so far. I built my 4" Frenzy XL a few years back also with the intention of using it for my L3 cert. Due to life getting in the way... I still have not flown it! I am hoping to this year will be its maiden on a K550. I setup an Adept22 as primary and an Adept DDC22 as...

    L3 Practice Phoenix

Can't wait to see it finished. Here is my Phoenix which is approx. 42% scale. Only flown once way back in Sept 2004 on a AT J570. Sat in storage since then. I repainted it in 2016 and put decals on. It has a 54mm motor mount and decals are from Stickershock. Hope to fly it again next year.

Hey all, Years ago I ordered a bunch of Estes Q2G2 igniters to be used for dual deployment. I see they are no longer available. What is being used as a low current replacement now ? Thanks!
