    Successful L1 - thanks TRF

Good job! I also got my L1 cert on the same day. Mine doesn't whistle though. :( lol

Level 1 Success! Quicksilver (Public Missiles)

Thanks everybody! My rocket went up first on the same rack as the Dominator 4... I was focused on where my rocket landed, so I didn't get to see it launch. Was looking forward to seeing that one! Everybody's projects are very impressive, I'm glad you're able to identify what rockets belong...

Level 1 Success! Quicksilver (Public Missiles)

Successful Level 1 certification with Quicksilver! Motor was an Aerotech H73J, using Rouse-tech casing. Here's the photo album... (Included are other rockets, plus my Quest Cobalt and Aerotech Arreaux)...

    Finished my Leviathan Build!

Launch Pad - If you want to spend the money on your own pad, I always recommend the Aerotech Mantis. Paper shock cord mount - I have a Leviathan as well, and the paper shock cord mount did detach one time. The rocket body fell surprisingly lightly and landed in some grass with almost no...

    PML Quicksilver Build

Nice! My Quicksilver is built and waiting to launch for my L1 cert. https://www.facebook.com/media/set/?set=a.417036581644063.114915.100000131739582&type=3

Top coat on my Aerotech Initiator

Yes the fins did overhang a little bit, but I never thought twice about it and it flew fine without changing anything.

    Bubba's Mini Honest John

Good rocket, mine flew fine with the exception of the smallest recommended motors 1/2A3-2T. It's not enough power.

Top coat on my Aerotech Initiator

I launched this rocket several times on a lake bed, and broke fins. I rebuilt the rocket 2 or 3 times. So I would recommend a larger chute for hard surface landings. Just make sure you have plenty of space for wind drift.

Estes Pro Series II Igniters - 100% failure rate

I wrote to estes about my 1/4 experience, and they are going to mail new igniters. They all burned, but failed to ignite the motor until the fourth try. I followed the directions, including slightly bending the tip to make contact with the propellant. Anyway I told them I didn't mind buying...

    First Aerotech Kit - Arreaux

Nice launch picture! Just finished building mine and can't wait to fly it! I ordered a 3-pak of E15-7W motors.

just ordered my first Estes pro series rocket

I LOVE my Leviathan! It's bigger than it looks in the pictures, and it flies great! I also use a Mantis launch pad.

Your Ol' Reliables and your Battle Damaged Birds

Current rockets: Astra III (Quest) - this looks like one that will take some battle damage. After 3 flights, the hot motors have already begun to warp the plastic motor retainer. I hope it holds up. Hopefully with stronger motors, the faster airflow will help cool it more quickly on future...

    First Aerotech Kit - Arreaux

CA works great. Just retired my Mustang after several years. Last flight was on a G80-10T. Wow! Arreaux is basically the same rocket, but longer. Same body tube, nose cone and fins (3 instead of 4). They just added a slightly larger parachute and a payload section. Just got mine in the...

    Launch Pad Anyone?

Reminds my of my first rocket with my dad when I was a kid. We built a Big Bertha. My dad made our own simple launch pad by drilling a rod into a thick piece of wood. We launched by connecting a wire to the car battery. Back then, Estes didn't have plugs for the igniters, so we used masking...

Estes Pro Series II Igniters - 100% failure rate

Copperheads seem to work well for me. Not nearly as nice as the FirstFire igniters, and they don't always work 100% and can be finicky. Also sometimes I need to sand down the tip to get them to fit into the motors. But they seem to work most of the time, and they are cheap!

    Aerotech INITIATOR kit

Great rocket kit! The only problem I had was that I would break fins when it landed on a hard surface (dry lake bed). A slightly larger parachute would help, or just make sure your rocket will land on a softer surface (soft grass or soil).

    AT SUMO @ Hobbylinc

I had issues with the Initiator kit's fins breaking, and re-built it twice. The fins extend down past the aft end of the body tube, so they take the brunt of the impact, especially on a hard surface. However it was also my first mid-power kit, so inexperience probably played a roll. A...

    Leviathan ~ Estes Pro Series

I also had my doubts about the shock cord mount and carpenter's glue, but I built it stock anyway. The mount held up perfectly fine on the first flight! And the carpenter's glue seems to be holding up very well. It's a great kit, I wouldn't worry about modifications unless you really want to...

Estes Pro Series II Igniters - 100% failure rate

My experience so far: 1/4. I launched my Leviathan on Saturday. I used the Estes F26-6FJ and the Sonic Igniters. My launch controller is the original Pro Series launch controller that Estes sold way back when I bought the Phantom 4000 set, and the battery packs were fully charged. The first...
