Get a FREE ESTES CATALOG - no shipping

Thanks for the catalog and I like that you have a vintage OOP section on your site, I'll definitely be checking that frequently! Good luck in the new venture!

    New Member from NJ

Welcome to the forum! I fly with GSSS although admittedly last couple years life has gotten in the way and I've not been able to get to a launch recently. I've been launching there since 2003 and it's a great field for low and mid power. They hold a monthly launch and sometimes very few...

    WHAT'S YOUR FAVORITE ESTES MINI-BRUTE?

Built the Javelin & Super Flea back in the day. Super flea was lost to a tree about 15 years ago but still have the Javelin, as well as a Mosquito that's flown many times over the years and is always a crowd pleaser at the launches!

ESTES ROCKETS MASTER SERIES MERCURY ATLAS BUILD!

Hey I have been following your build with a particular interest as I built the Atlas about 15 years ago. It's flown only about 3 times but is a great rocket. On mine I did not prime and paint the whole BT as I used the mylar strips. For me, cutting and getting those just right took me just as...

What OOP Models Do You Have?

Estes: Javelin/Super Flea Space Shuttle (full stack) Mercury Atlas Little Joe II (1/100 scale) LTV Scout X Prize Lucky 7 Outlander MPC: Asp Probably have more that I can't think of at the moment. All the Estes I listed are built and have flown. At some point I'll get a pic up here.

Have You Built An Estes Alpha?

I had the Alpha III that came with my launch setup when I was a kid, I still have it but it is destroyed from so much launching that at this point I just am using it for spare parts. More recently I built 2 Alphas, one with the current paint scheme and one with the original look.

    Best EZup tent

I have the Eurmax also and this thing really is the Rolls Royce of EZ up tents. Highly recommended!

    GSSS Launch status August 28?

How did it go? We were at last month's launch which was just about the most perfect launch conditions I've ever seen. Perfect weather and almost no wind. Had about 15-20 flyers there and had a great day.

How long have you had your model rocket?

My oldest rocket that is still flyable is an Estes Javelin (yes, the one from the Javelin/Super Flea combo kit) and it dates to about 1980 or so. The Super Flea ended up in a tree about 10 years ago so that was the end of that.....

    Finally Lost My Mosquito!

I will have to check my flight logs on rocektreveiws.com for the exact number, but I have well over 20 flights on my Mosquito and here is my secret. Actually not a secret as I've posted this before elsewhere on the forum. Anyway, I simply tape small strip of mylar, maybe 3 inches long or so...

What was the first rocket you ever launched?

I do not have a photographic memory so I have to guess! I'm gonna say it was my Alpha III around 1979ish. The years took their toll and although I still have it, it's unflyable and so I have used it for spare parts.

You Ever Build something so (Intricate, detailed, expensive) you were afraid to fly it?

I am in the camp of "If you don't fly it then what the heck did you build it for?" It's not a rocket if it doesn't fly. My interests are mainly scale, so I've built a Mercury Atlas, Redstone, Space Shuttle, LTV Scout and more, and they've all flown multiple times. Not always perfect but so far...

Has anyone struggled with the escape tower on the Estes Mercury-Redstone model?

Yes, I have struggled, mightily! Like everyone else who's had one of these. I'm almost, but not quite old enough to have had the original version. But I did build the newer Estes incarnation of about 10 years ago, I think it's the 2167 if I recall correctly. I must be a real glutton for...

What are your least favorite (or most hated) rocket designs?

Another vote against the Big Bertha, never could understand the appeal of that fugly thing! Mercifully, I had forgotten all about the similarly ugly Rock-it until one of you just had to bring it up!

    Estes 2021 catalog status?

I requested one directly from their website a couple of weeks ago and just got it Thursday. The last hardcopy catalog I have from them is the 2016 one and I didn't even think they were doing them anymore until someone posted it here which is what prompted me to order it.

    most challenging Estes build?

I'll put my vote in for the LTV Scout, Mercury Atlas, and Outlander. The Scout had this piece of wood you had to cut the conduit covers from and then shape them which was no easy task. The Atlas wasn't so much a difficult build as it was to finish the thing. I don't know how many hours I...

Who has their very 1st rocket?

I still have what I think are my first 2 rockets. An Estes Alpha III that came with my launch kit and the Estes Javelin (from the combo pack with the Super Flea which I lost to a tree about 10 years ago). The Alpha III is pretty much destroyed and no longer flyable but the Javelin is still...

    Kits you would upgrade?

The Outlander flies well on the 18mm composite D but from personal experience I can tell you that the ejection gasses are so hot it will burn through the upper end of the motor tube. Already had to rebuild mine once. So I would recommend some type of insulating material to reinforce the motor...
