    Rocket Travel Carrier

I want to build something to fit in the back of my SUV for carrying/stacking several large rockets. I've seen examples made of PVC. Please share photos I can use as inspiration for my design. Much appreciated!

That makes perfect sense. Thanks for the reply.

    RRC3 Aux Programming Questions

It's been a while since I've flown a high power two-stage rocket. I just want to double check my understanding of Aux settings on my RRC3. I’m using it for DD and air-starts. It is currently set this way: Aux Output Control Sequence (OCS): Event > Timer > 1-shot Comparator. Trigger Event...

    L-2

Congratulations Andy! That was a picture perfect flight. For those asking - our Tampa club hosted the launch with very specific COVID-19 safety protocol in place. It was a nice day outside with social distancing, no touch check-ins, and lots of sanitizing. It was great to get out!

    8" Cluster Rocket Design

What program do you use to create the paint job? I usually use colored pencils on white paper. I’d love to create mock ups like that.

    HyperLOC 835 warped fins

I've had warped ply on more than one occasion. here's how I deal with it... Apply 1 layer of fiberglass on each side of the fin(s). While epoxy is still wet, place them between 2 panes of thick glass (fairly cheap at a window/glass store). Be sure to use parchment paper or wax paper between...

"Wild Minion" Level 3 Certification flight

Way to go Leo. I'm bummed I missed the launch. It looked like an awesome flight. CONGRATS! Chris

    deployment Bag Help

With the free bag example from Dixon's post, the nose cone chute would do exactly what you described. That's my plan for July. I might have misinterpreted Leo's description that ended up on my sketch. I can definitely see the risks and will experiment with different configurations via...

    deployment Bag Help

Awesome feedback everybody - thanks! I believe I will go with the Free Bag method for a launch planned on July 18th. It's a +/-35lb rocket with a fairly heavy nose cone. So, it probably makes the most sense anyway. In the future, I'm going to experiment with some of the other techniques...

    deployment Bag Help

Thanks Joe - - So, you always have the nose cone come down under a separate chute? Ideally, I'd like to keep it all together. However, the Crossfire chutes by TopFLight don't have a connection point on the apex. Any other options?

    deployment Bag Help

I don't have any experience with Deployment Bags and need a little help. I've read all the threads and watched all the videos. They have been very helpful and have educated me on how to PACK the bag. Interestingly enough, I can't find any threads, instructions, or videos on best practices...

    CATO!

The Liner slipped into the case with no problem. However, the grains were very tight going into the liner. I don't believe this had anything to do with the CATO, but who knows. I have a 38/720 case that never allows the liner to fit. In fact, I need to use a power sander to reduce the...

    CATO!

I guess it was bound to happen eventually... after 160+ successful high power flights with Aerotech reloads and Rouse Teach hardware, I had my first Cato last Saturday. It was in a fiberglass 4” Darkstar rocket with an Aerotech K828FJ-P (Rouse Tech 54/2560 case). Based on the photos...

    Upscale Big Bertha

First flight was a success! It reached 3,165ft at apogee. Recovery was pretty cool... The Main popped at 500ft. It came down on the flight-line with the shock cord draped perfectly over MY TENT. The mainframe was hanging about 1 foot off the ground. How's that for a soft landing? ;)...

    Upscale Big Bertha

Thanks Coop. Yeah - I added 2 layers of 5.79 oz. fiberglass to both sides of the fins. I believe they are as strong as 1/4" ply but without as much weight/drag.

    Upscale Big Bertha

Sorry - I didn't take time to photo-document the build, but wanted to share my newest rocket... a 238% Upscale Big Bertha. Here's a few details... approximately 238% upscale 4” LOC body tubes (wrapped with 2 layers of 5.79 oz fiberglass) 4 inch FG Elliptical nosecone from Rocketry...

Shear Pin Failure: Video & Need Advice

Any rocket with substantial nose weight poses this risk. Blackjack is spot on - you need to find the right balance of shock cord length and drogue deployment charge strength so there is not a jarring effect when the payload reaches the end of the cord. I went through this with my 7.5" Bullpup...

    Upscale Starship Vega

Thanks Quake, I don't think a bigger drogue will help the situation. I'm either going to configure the rocket to descend under 2 separate chutes (one chute for the Nosecone, Payload, and AV bay and a bigger chute for the mainframe. Or, I'll rig the rocket for single deploy.... (one Drogue...
