Building a deck on my house

Mushtang, Good for you taking this on yourself. Here's a few pointers of my own: • crown all of your joists before installing, ie sight along the joist edgewise and place the hump or crown facing up. • grain your deck boards down, ie look at the end grain of each deck board and install...

    Motorcycle thread?

Here's my ride. A 1982 Honda CBX 1050 Super Sport. A 6 cylinder beauty. She has 22,000 miles and is all original and in mint condition. The pictures don't do the paint justice. The finish is pearl and she glows.

    Falling Skies

Haven't seen any good scifi since the days of B5. I did just download The History of Future Folk. Looks fun, but not really scifi. https://www.futurefolk.com/

    Skyfall anyone see it yet?

I have fond memories of watching Bond (actually Ursula Undress LOL) with my father as a child. This past Saturday was my Bday so my son, a senior in high school, took me to see Skyfall. Priceless. I thought the movie was done well and would put it in the top 5.

    from ROCKET building to...

It all begins with that one simple word...YES. I just finished a 2 story colonial for my daughter. Bought the kit at HobbyLobby with a coupon. Great deal. It took me 1 year start to finish and I'm a Carpenter by trade. Good thing she was a patient customer. Anybody else would have been...

    BSG:Blood & Chrome

Oh, and i did hear about the Star Trek coming out in the summer. Look really forward to that one and who knows maybe Disney will do something exciting with Star Wars, too. Been watching old episodes of Deep Space 9 to get my scifi fix. All 173 episodes on Netflix on my pad. Technology is great!

You are correct about the webisodes, also. SYFY says they are doing a 2 hour movie version on network television. Not sure what that means. https://syfy.com/battlestar However they serve it is great news since there is such a lack of quality scifi.

    Sweet! Lost my job today!

Stick to your guns Bubba and throw him under the moving van as it were. I don't make many friends cuz i'm way too outspoken and believe very strongly in people doing the right thing. Don't have regrets a year from now cuz you didn't follow through with your convictions. I know this next part...

FANTASY SCALE - (Buck Rogers) Draconian Marauder Gallery

Seeing your previous post is what inspired me to pull this out of the repair pile. It's been in that pile for over 2 years. It is a really cool rocket and I look forward to seeing it fly some day, too. I also have the starfighter that I plan on upscaling as well.

FANTASY SCALE - (Buck Rogers) Draconian Marauder Gallery

Here is a pic of my 1.5x upscale I did a few years ago. I never got to fly it though because it suffered damage from a move shortly after finishing it. You can see where I have started to cut the airframe to begin repairs. It's a BT60 airframe with one wrap of glass so cutting it has...

    Woodworking - Suggested Reading?

+1 for Roy Underhill at the Woodwrights Shop. Very entertaining and very knowledgable. I do think his approach to carpentry is a little out of reach for the average person. Your question really depends on your interests. Do you want to learn how to make tables, bookcases and shelves? Or...

    Who's got the oldest house?

As a career carpenter that makes me cringe. No bad on you, just say'in. 1845 is the earliest info I have on my house. 2 story balloon-framed which means the exterior wall studs go from the top of the foundation to the seat cut on the rafters. I have measured them to be a little over 21'...

    Presidential debate thread

    1. The goal of TRF is to provide an environment where everyone can kick back, relax, and be comfortable. To that end, certain topics are off-limits -- overt politics, sex, and religion. Obviously, politics will enter into a lot of discussions, in some regards, especially when discussing such...
